Chris Boonzaier Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 The TK on the drum reminds me of this one .................. Is that the swimming badge 3rd level?
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I think it called a "Totenkopfschwimmer", there is a different version around today. When the 2 FW skulls landed up at DN his picker thought they were the Schwimmer badge.

Hoss Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) The Machinegun Marksman badge had the brass ammunition belt going all the way around the edges, which would stand out clearly. These discussions show the limitations of scanners, which duplicate the rough surface of the postcards. In the original image, you can easily see with a magnifying loupe that it's an "S." Hello Thomas, Is the backing cloth for the MG badge black? #1071 Regards Eric Edited December 4, 2012 by Hoss
Hoss Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Hello Robin Its the teeth why should a cloth badge have better gums than me. Seriously have you compared the thread under magnification? The backing looks like correct period tunic lining material to me. Now be gentle remember you indoctrinated me into the Totty Club before you left what a wonderful thread Gents. Regards Eric
ЧЕТНИК Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Thomas, it could also read Yamy. There are a coulpe of places by that name in the Ukraine.yamy.JPG Yamu migt be a German pronanciation of Janja (Јања- in Serbian). It is a place (village) ina Sothern Serbia (Kosovo). There are many places in the Balkans with that name..."Yamu" can also mean a pit (Јама- in Serbian)...
Robin Lumsden Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 The backing looks like correct period tunic lining material to me. To me also. Thanks, Eric.

dond Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 .................. and here is a fake. A good one. But a fake, nonetheless. Ingo Haarcke claims it is good.
Robin Lumsden Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Ingo Haarcke claims it is good. With all due respect, Ingo is an expert on Freikorps badges. Not TKs or FW stuff. Opinions will always differ. Let's just say, it wouldn't be for my collection.
dond Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I hear you Robin. A classic case of "expertitus." If my expert says its good then it must be.....

Chip Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 If you have seen a real one, you know better. Chip
dond Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 The problem is that we have seen only a few accepted real ones. Being handmade there will be some variations. Just look at the pics of those being worn in this thread.
