Hi all... since many of you have such amazing knowledge of medals and I'm just a beginner... I'm curious to learn if you think this is worth getting.

I like the look of it and it gives me a good feeling.. am I right?!

Looks quite nice to me as an example of the 4th class Rote Adler, not a rare piece but I have always thought it an attractive piece.

    Hello:

This is a perfectly good piece in nice condition with an original ribbon. As previously stated, these are rather common. Therefore, the desirability of this item depends upon the price at which it is offered.

    Best regards,

I've decided to get it and got the price down to where I wanted it and IT just came in the mail today.....;)

It is a magnificent little piece I am absolutely psyched about it...

This is beside the fact that I am so happy to be the proud owner of a Red Eagle finally.

I do want to thank all here for being so good to point out what to look for etc etc..

    This forum can be great.

I do have a question for all RAO experts on here...

It looks like there is some gold residue on the arms of the cross.

Did these crosses ever come gold gilded or colored in any fashion?

No, never for the 4th class, wich was always in silver.

The higher classes (3rd, 2nd, 1st, grandcross), normally made of gold, were from 1916 to 1918 officially in silver gilded. There are also other materials of these higher classes like bronce gilded or also silver gilded before 1916, but only as private purchased pieces ("Spangenstücke")

    Regards, Komtur.

Toning can sometimes give silver a gold color. I imagine that's the case here.
