Chris Boonzaier
Citation... On the 21st of Feb 1915 the Bayer. Reserve Infanterie Regiment 22 was to storm the Reichsackerkopf. At 9:00 am the I. Batln. began the assault and right away suffered heavy losses as they came under a withering enemy fire. The 7. Komp (II. Batln.) lay in a tree line to the left of the I. Batln. They were to support the attack and received the order to join them to continue the attack. Arriving at the level of the Battalion the (then) Unteroffizier Riethmann saw two men jump up and run forward. They did not get further than 30m before being shot down. He then saw a badly wounded man about 70m in front of their position, laying doubled up in pain. He right away turned to Infantryman Vogt and asked him to help him save the wounded man. Under extremely heavy enemy fire they made their way forward to where Hauptmann Holler was laying and they managed to carry him back to the aid station 200m behind their lines.” Holler unfortunately died. Award was made in 1919-20 it seems
Hauptmann
Terrific group Chris... and great research! A shame the Hauptmann died but seems they did all they could to save him. Hoping more turns up. Great job! Dan
Claudius
There a Donald Trump in every sceptic, just waiting to break out..... hahaha all comedians need a great "straight-man" to set up their punchlines. I added some information germane to this group under the "Bavarian Gold Bravery Medal Mystery" thread. I added photos of the award document. Very nice. Great group. Did the family have any other documents to this man?

Chris Boonzaier
Does the medal have the typical marking on it's rim? Hi, Indeed, the classic markings as you have on your site. You can bet there is a huge desire to "clean" and see how much of the finish remained, but this has been in a box since WW2, until the guy I know picked it up about 4 years ago... even then he considered cleaning and was told "finger weg!"... and I have resisted the temptation as well. best Chris

If you clean it, any trace of the gilding will undoubtedly disappear. Best regards

Chris Boonzaier
Does anyone know if winners of the TKM wear more or less assured of a Civil Service Job of some sort? Andreas (Spolei) showed me a photo of a relatives group who also had a 25 year civil service cross. Best Chris
Schießplatzmeister
Does anyone know if winners of the TKM wear more or less assured of a Civil Service Job of some sort? Andreas (Spolei) showed me a photo of a relatives group who also had a 25 year civil service cross. Best Chris Hello Chris: An excellent question. Based upon what I have seen, recipients were not guaranteed a civil service job, but if they were qualified, I believe that it certainly helped during the 3rd Reich to have been a MVM/TKM recipient. I have seen cases of many recipients who went on to become civil servants, and some who did not. Keep in mind however, if you were from a Jewish family and a TKM recipient, you were lucky if you were aloud to leave the country in the late 1930's. I have also seen the cases of political enemies of the State who were MVM/TKM recipients who were sent to Dachau for a few months to let them think about how erroneous their socialist ideals and activities were. I know of one Silber MVM/TKM recipient who was sent there twice! Best regards
