Chris Boonzaier Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 have had this for ages, it is heavy silver plated... is it military in style or for the workers? I know it is nothing official, but I liked to use it now and then when I still smoked....
Stogieman Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 I think a "worker's" with the Cog and hammer/sickle.
Guest Rick Research Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Made out of steel? Any maker marks? Hand done, so can't be sure, but this has the look of a WW2 bring back item.
Ed_Haynes Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Much like the silver one (scans badly) I have to V. B. Lavrinovich.See http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2326 for his group and story.
ehrentitle Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 (edited) Great thread, made me think of an unusual cigarette box that I picked up at a flea market in Berlin in the late 80s. It is dated late 1945 with an inscription in Russian (something about him being a mechanical engineer in Berlin if I recall), but the insignia on the top is for a US Army signal unit (I think it was put there to cover the hole left when the orignal insignia was taken off). It brass, lined with black painted wood. Below are a few photos. Since I don't smoke, I use it to hold some of the old challenge coins I was given when I was on active duty with the Army. Would be interested in hearing what you all think about it. Kevin Edited January 23, 2006 by ehrentitle
Gerd Becker Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 (edited) That are great pieces, everyone. Chris, the hammer and the gear makes it IMO definately a workers cigarette case. I find, as you more often find military ones, this one is at least as desirable as a military example. But i have a question myself to the more knowledgable than me: Could it be, that there were cases, where cigarette cases were awarded to workers?Gerd Edited January 25, 2006 by Gerd Becker
RichieC Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Cigarette case made to commemorate 25 years of RKKA. Low quality construction of brown Bakelite... Still cool in any case...
NavyFCO Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 (edited) Here's one for Colonel Bredis, the commander of SmerSh for the Latvian Rifles... Edited February 3, 2006 by NavyFCO
NavyFCO Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 His other... (I think I got the sides mixed up in my posts!) What's odd is that the name appears to be different, though both are from him. Dave
Stogieman Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Beautiful pieces. The engraving looks exquisite.
Ed_Haynes Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Beautiful pieces. The engraving looks exquisite. And the engraving is INCREDIBLY difficult to scan legibly. Maybe I should try again on Lavrinovich's.
