If you do not have a copy of McDaniel you really ought to as it provides illustrations and number ranges (amongst other things) for all the types). Not cheap but a very good investment.

I have that book. And other books in Russian as well, especially the collector's series in Russian. But each book describ the number range differently...

There is that other one by Paul Schmitt, that gets really into great depth on the serial numbers. The green book, "Echos of War".

As groundbreaking as those two books were, respectfully, there are now a plethora of ways to obtain better information for free online. For types and variations, http://mondvor.narod.ru/ is a good place to start.

Easier just to post them.lol That's what I do. Having said this, Schmitt's book Echoes has been super helpful with research and worth every penny if you are into the research part of the hobby.

Personally I think "Order of Red Banner" by V. Durov and N. Strekalov is the best book around (and certainly much more comprehensive source than "Comprehensive Guide" ).

It was published in 2006 by "Collector’s Books".

I remember these too (and others) that were published in Kiev (by ЧПП and Белая церковь) back in 2003-2005.

Not bad for its time, but books from CollectorSeries (as we both know ) are much better source of info.
