I just received this awesome Order of the Red Star, awarded to a veteran of the Battle of Lake Khasan. Sadly, it is a part of a larger and broken up grouping. But what makes me really happy is that anything associated with a Khasan veteran is nearly impossible to find.

This is only partially translated. Any assistance with the translation of his service record as well as the citation would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

The funny thing about faces is that you never forget them. I checked my archive and I researched and translated this very service record almost one and a half years years ago. Apparently the award has since switched hands and the translation got lost somewhere in the process. If you PM me your email address I'll send it to you.

I saw this award. I wish so much i had seen it an hour our so earlier and i would have bought it myself. Glad to see it went to an appreciative collector though. If you ever want to trade or sell it, Paul, please look me up :)

I have actually never seen such a long service record. I think that the fact that it is a Lake Khasan vet is what makes me so happy. I am surprised that he only made major after all of that service.

Congrats, Paul! Didn't know you were into Soviet too! Somewhere in the back pages here (have to re-learn how to make links) check "Grebennik" for a Khasan Red Banner group. After more than 30 years Grebennik had only made Technical Senior Lieutenant in... the KGB. :speechless1:

I'd like to know what some of those retirement paragraph numbers mean, because in most cases I'd guess they were final glass ceilings--maximum time in grade with no promotion prospect so... heave ho, Comrade! (Just like everybody else!)

Great stuff Rick and Tom. Uncontrolled hypertension is still grounds for discharged in the military today.
