Paul R Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I just received this awesome Order of the Red Star, awarded to a veteran of the Battle of Lake Khasan. Sadly, it is a part of a larger and broken up grouping. But what makes me really happy is that anything associated with a Khasan veteran is nearly impossible to find. This is only partially translated. Any assistance with the translation of his service record as well as the citation would be greatly appreciated. Regards Paul
Ferdinand Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Hi Paul, The funny thing about faces is that you never forget them. I checked my archive and I researched and translated this very service record almost one and a half years years ago. Apparently the award has since switched hands and the translation got lost somewhere in the process. If you PM me your email address I'll send it to you. Auke
redoctober Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I saw this award. I wish so much i had seen it an hour our so earlier and i would have bought it myself. Glad to see it went to an appreciative collector though. If you ever want to trade or sell it, Paul, please look me up
Rogi Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 That award is awesome and Auke is to the rescue again very cool pick up Paul

Aurelius Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Nice one Paul. A long history behind the man behind the award.
Paul R Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 I have actually never seen such a long service record. I think that the fact that it is a Lake Khasan vet is what makes me so happy. I am surprised that he only made major after all of that service.
JapanX Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I think that the fact that it is a Lake Khasan vet is what makes me so happy. Check out this black-and-white film БОЕВЫЕ ДЕЙСТВИЯ НА ОЗЕРЕ ХАСАН/OPERATIONS ON LAKE KHASAN silent, 5 min 36 sec, made in 1938 http://victory.rusarchives.ru/rgakfd_boevye-deystviya-ozero-hasan.php
JapanX Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 This one was issued in 1972 to the specialist anti-aircraft defence unit
JapanX Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 A year and a half ago this red star was sold for $2200
JapanX Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Oops... Posted last posts (#10-15) in the wrong thread... Sorry about that Paul Can you please move them to the correct thread http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/55422-a-group-with-order-of-red-star-for-vietnam/page-5?
Guest Rick Research Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Congrats, Paul! Didn't know you were into Soviet too! Somewhere in the back pages here (have to re-learn how to make links) check "Grebennik" for a Khasan Red Banner group. After more than 30 years Grebennik had only made Technical Senior Lieutenant in... the KGB. I'd like to know what some of those retirement paragraph numbers mean, because in most cases I'd guess they were final glass ceilings--maximum time in grade with no promotion prospect so... heave ho, Comrade! (Just like everybody else!)
redoctober Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Article 43 is being retired for medical reason. If I remember rightly 43, A was Hypertension. Cheers, Tom
Paul R Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Great stuff Rick and Tom. Uncontrolled hypertension is still grounds for discharged in the military today.
