Uffz. Rohleder Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Hello all, Here my great great grandpa's single 1870/71 medal with bars. I don't know why his medal is silver colored but it is indeed the combatant medal. Even with the rim engraving
BalkanCollector Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 So nice to see such an old medal being preserved by the family for so many years!
IrishGunner Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Very nice. I always enjoy seeing this medal mounted...and with bars.
VtwinVince Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 That is a nice variant, must have been silvered by your ancestor.
Uffz. Rohleder Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 Thank you very much guys. Yeah looks like but I wonder why he choose silver instead of gold for the medal. We will never known

Maybe your grandpa shared the same view. Also, who knows the price of gold back then? Maybe it was way more expensive than silver.
