Chris Boonzaier Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Hi, can anyone explain what the difference is? Did the Offiziers Aspirant wear an officers Pickelhaube? Thanks Chris
Bayern Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Hello, In pickelhaube.com is a interesting article : Upgrading a kurassier helmet.
Glenn J Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Chris, well officially, Offizier-Aspiranten should not wear an officers’ helmet. They usually held the rank of Vizefeldwebel /Vizewachmeister d.R. As such they would usually wear an issue helmet with the officer pattern cockade. Of course, during wartime, I am sure that some guys would have “upgraded” their helmets contrary to regulations. Regards Glenn
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 Hi , thanks for the info. I must admit the "offizier aspirant" was a new one to me...

Dave Danner Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) Here is an example of someone named an Offizier-Aspirant while still a Gefreiter, which seems odd. Personnel files often omit this Ernennung, and only list Beförderungen. Here is one with the Ernennung at the same time as the promotion to Unteroffizier: Another as an Unteroffizier, although only two weeks before promotion to Vizewachtmeister: Vizewachtmeister and Offizier-Aspirant at the same time: Edited May 11, 2019 by Dave Danner
