Utgardloki Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 What do you think about ebay-sellers, who sell single pages out of albums, or even worse, cut it into pieces like this one. https://www.ebay.at/itm/40-FAB404-Foto-Zerschossener-TANK-53-sudl-Marcoing-Dezember-1917-ca8-4x5-8/265045694637?hash=item3db5f458ad:g:FfAAAOSwLitgEyl0
Alex K Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Well, yes very annoying and pointlessly destructive, it is clear that their interest is in making as much money as is possible by auctioning/selling individually, not interested in collecting or history, very common I suspect, just like people who break up medal groups Edited February 10, 2021 by Alex K 1
BlackcowboyBS Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Yes, it drives me crazy, no respect for history, all for the money. I hate it. 1
Deutschritter Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Historical pictures like these do not belong to the "buyers", but to the "Allgemeinheit" ... that is my opinion. Put what you have out there for all to see, before the memory is lost forever ... just the way I see it and the way I do it.
Deruelle Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Hi to be honest I hate to see someone destroying part of history to make a profit. I spend so many years and money to reunite items, medals and papers from same person to see that. I can't understand. We can do anything to avoid this. as it is my collection theme, I will try to reunite the album. Christophe 2
OvBacon Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 It is really sad but we know it will always happen when people can make more money breaking things apart instead of leaving them together.... Even pretty honorable sellers will sell medals from one person separately... or sell mini's separate from their big brothers. It sucks but all we can do is try to reunite things and tell the accurate story of its history.
Eiserne Wehr Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago It is dreadful to see but we do not have any influence on this behaviour which is clearly motivated by greed. Over the two decades i have been collecting WWI photos/postcards and following basically everything German military related photos that is being sold i have seen countless albums being ripped apart and sold per page. Even worse are the cases where the photos being cut out from the album pages where you can still see some of the album paper and some handwritten text(hardly ever with the full text) around it and the photo on the other side is cut in half and thus destroyed. In the past it would bring my mood down seeing this happen but now i just accept it for what it is and only hope most of the separated pages end up with the same buyer. Having photos being out of context is sad but whenever you buy a photo the chance it comes from a collection of photos or even an album is pretty high.
