    1. Thank you... must have missed that due to hungry husband turning up looking for lunch!
    2. Good looking medal. Read the article but am puzzled as to who gets Class 1 and who gets Class 2. Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing, Ura.
    3. Hi, Stogieman. The one on the black/orange/white ribbon is the Commemorative Medal for the 300th Anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty (Медаль в память 300 - летия дома Романовых), instituted 21 February 1913 and awarded to the nobility, members of the armed forces, and those who attended celebratory events at which the Tsar was present. Interestingly, public servants, members of the Duma, and priests could also wear it but had to purchase their own! The other one is the Commemorative Medal of 100th Anniversary of Patriotic War 1812 (МЕДАЛЬ "В ПАМЯТЬ 100-ЛЕТИЯ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННОЙ ВОЙНЫ 1812 Г") which was awarded to troops taking part in parades to mark said anniversary (who were drawn from regiments that had been involved in turfing the French out) and also to direct descendants of soldiers who had fought in that war.
    4. I heard the announcement on BBC Breakfast and thought, "I bet BigJarof Wasps will have something posted on GMIC by now"... and here you are
    5. Bittersweet. Fantastic that his courage is recognised, but so sad that he's not able to receive the award himself.
    6. I just wish I knew... what little there is to be found about this is vague and contradictory! GRRR.
    7. The UK has stated that there will be no awards of the Humanitarian Service Medal in regard of actions occuring before the date it was instituted, so that is unlikely - nice thought though it might be!
    8. Amazing collection - thank you for sharing!
    9. Sometimes a minature of a lower class of an order is worn to indicate possession of a higher class of that order. Not sure if this was done in Sarawak, it's more of a European thing; and I'm not really into minatures anyway. The ribbon can be decorated with a rosette or other insignia to indicate this. Use of a rosette and 'wings' are also commonplace on a ribbon bar to indicate the class of the order held. A rosette and silver 'wings' as shown here conventionally represents a holder of the Commander or Third Class of a typical 5-class order.
    10. It was awarded for 'service of information', so either gathering it (intelligence work) or disseminating it.
    11. Sounds interesting... The author might find it worth exploring Print on Demand options as international shipping is so overpriced these days. A PDF version might also be advantageous, readilly sent direct to purchasers.
