I am just venturing into the magnificent world of Urkenden,so please bear with me if I ask dumb questions. I have a named grouping on it's way,and I am trying to research the soldier's unit and actions it saw. Ludwig Jackobs was born in Sternberg, Mecklenberg-Schwerin 1-July- 1875 and served in the Leib-Kompanie Großherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Grenadier - Regiment 89 from 16-Oct-1895- 16-Sept-1897 as a Grenadier with his conduct termed 'Sehr Gut' He was recalled during The Great War,and was awarded the EK 2 on 3-31-1917. When i research the" Infantarie Regiments Nr. 395 I draw a total blank, but when i researched the 17th Division I see the Mecklenburgisches Grenadier - Regiment 89 was part of the 34.Infanterie-Brigade My question is this: am i reading the Regimental number incorrectly,or was he on TDY with Infantarie Regiments Nr. 395 when he was awarded the Ek 2( I notice his rank on the Urkunde is Landsturmann ) Here are his Identity Disks Any info is VERY much appreciated

Oh, i was reading the box and thought that was how it as presented. On another forum I also learned that this is probably not the KvM that was presented,as the early KvM's were in a Blue presentation case. thanx for the replies

This is a 1915 dated Urkunde and a cased Kvk.The Kvk has a bit of green toning on it. an interesting thing about the urkunde is that many years ago it was mounted to a piece of cardboard,( i am assuming for framing purposes)and on the back of the cardboard an old newspaper is glued to it. I can gather he was in the Field Artillery but I cannot decipher the particulars of his regiment

I really like the construction of this bar as well: the woven backing is often found on Medal bars from Bavaria and Württemberg. interesting combo!

My Maternal Grandfather was killed in Operation Cobra on 25-July -44 and was posthumously awarded both The Purple heart and Bronze Star which were presented to my Grandmother

The death certificate states he died on 30-Nov-1943 in the Prince of Wales Hospital in Plymouth from Head injuries after being thrown from a motor cycle,and the death is listed as accidental. I too maintain a large interest in the D.C.L.I.( both World Wars) and that was the main reason i bought this grouping. thank you again for the additional information Leigh
