    1. That's great Christophe! Good work. To have such great results, I don't think working for a year it too much. It is nice to see you were rewarded for your research. And to have a photo of him too...outstanding.
    2. Sergio; Great group! I like how you have the medals and MP w/entries to this veteran. Thank you for showing it.
    3. I saw it too. And I wanted to believe it was good. I don't know that it isn't a bad bar (double negative?) It looks like a good bar, but it had a "je ne sais quoi" that I didn't like. I don't know if it was the ribbon overlap or the hanger and stitching in the back.
    4. I was thinking something similar, when he sells the individual helmets and gear pieces. But another thought is...imagine if a single collector could buy the whole lot. It is a great group of gear that belonged to one unit or adjacent units. A veritable cross-section of a group of soldiers, from the same frontal area, from the same time period. ...It is interest though how the Finder started photographing the dig site right from the beginning. Like he knew right away that this would be a meaningful discovery. This way the whole thing is documented and the provenance can be established. Good thing too. If fifty helmets would just "appear" on the collecting market someone would think they were fake.
    5. How about modeling them for us. Seriously, it might also give us all a better idea of how they were worn around the legs.
    6. "awarded to a German Medical Officer who served through the war" either their "experts" told them it was a medical officer or they know the name because of the estate it came from. A quick follow-up with the auction house may be helpful. Perhaps you may have to express a strict professional interest in the name in case the auction house is hesitant. It would be a shame to lose the name.
    7. Wonderful bar. Too bad you couldn't get the other one too, but at least you have a photo of it. Thanks for showing it! Interesting. Do you think the orginal owner had two created for the two different coats he could wear depending on the occasion?
    8. Amazing that they kept it all these years. Looks like an experiment with Bengal Tiger wrestling that went terribly wrong. The complete lack of staining suggests to me that no one was wearing it when it was hit. Must have had it out dry during an artillery storm, but I should wait for Chris' story.
    9. Claudio -Sorry for your loss. I will keep my eyes open for any sign of it.
    10. Again, I think we can safely assume that this photo was taken just after receiving the Italian award? Is it possible he was assigned to a unit in Rome and not just in the Eternal City for the award presentation? How many German units were stationed there during WWII?
    11. Wow. I looking at GregM's Lowell Toy medals and scroll down to see this. Like a punch between the eyes. Nice chain and atttributed too. Thank you for showing.
    12. Hello Vladtheman03: Yes, all collectors seem to have stories of the "ones that got away". You have some other gems? Great. I think we would all like to see them when you have a chance. And especially the background and details that you can provide. A British Interventionist group?!?!...I would like to see and learn about that. I don't know anything about them.
    13. Nice. I really like that eagle right in the center of the bar.
    14. Yes, I could see that. Every Sunday or special occasion he looped it through and tied a loose knot. Then undone it at the end of the day. On/off, on/off wearing off the white until the end of his days. His family didn't bury it with him because it was their remembrance...but that’s a sentimental supposition. nice.
    15. Hello Vladtheman03; By the size of them and the materials used I would confiident in say that these are Provisional Government Jettons. There is a thought that they were issued as medals by the Russian Provisional Government as awards but there isn't a lot of evidence to uphold that belief. At the very least, distributed by a fledgling government to raise the spirits of a besieged populace in a war-tired country. If I can find it, I should post my Russian currency from this time period. I think it would fit well with this thread. Nice pieces. Worth $200 - $300 each I would think.
    16. My congratulations to you as well. That was very magnanimous of you Sascha.
    17. Hello Vladtheman03; Could you provide some additional photos? Back and maybe a clearer one of the front. Please add some dimensions too. Is that a ribbon it is hanging from? You mentioned "these", do you have more? Could you post them all. Thanks.
    18. Ahzo...I can see that now. Small indeed. Obverse/reverse: I remembered seeing this medal being mounted portrait to the front and found those examples. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/20354-prussian-officers-medal-bar-franco-prussian-war-1870-71/page__p__194923__hl__lifesaving__fromsearch__1#entry194923 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/14563-double-lifesaver/page__hl__lifesaving
    19. Hallo Claudio; Two great medal bars! Is that a prinzengrosse Lifesaving Medal? And mounted reverse? Do you have any insights as to why this was done? I believe it is because during the TR-period, portraits (silhouettes) of imperial royalty were out of favor.
    20. AHhhh...I was curious about the Hungarian Commemorative. I was wondering if it might be the version without swords. Apparently not, and perhaps with swords is appropriate for a frontline serving nurse. The HK had different criteria for w/s or w/o swords.
    21. Ummm yeah, they are supposed to be Russian medals. In spite of the aged look to the ribbon on the Russian Civil-war era medal, I have doubts that it is period made, but there are others on this forum that are a better judge of authenticity. The second is badge, but I don't immediately recognize what it supposed to be. Judging by the patina I would suspect that this is a modern made piece as well.
