    1. Some info on the man can be found here.. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21838 On a recent auction I picked up his large death certificate in its rolling tube and a hand drawn pic of his grave.... (The certificate at the back is not his, that is still in its tube...
    2. Nice, nice, nice...... Now if only the regulations would turn up !!!!!!
    3. 16th, 17th, 20th, and 21st Bavarian Reserve Regiments. plus other odds and sods. Now which regt.... that would be more difficult.
    4. I would go with 6th Bavarian Reserve Division... Old 'Itlers division.
    5. Another page added. As you will see, I am working on covering Iron crosses with descriptions to supply and ammunition supply soldiers. Once I have those done I will cover the Automobile corps, then medics, then ..... the list goes on. http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/82643.html
    6. Here you go Rick ... have his EK1 and 2 as well (docs I mean)
    7. Thank You guys!! I happened to buy his large decorative death certificate and would like to do a write up about him. That helps me out quite a bit. Best Chris
    8. B.B. was in the Garde F?silier regiment and was killed in action on the 23rd of July 1915 at Wierzbow... More than that me not know. Is there anyone who by chance has a copy of the regt history and could help me further? Thanks Chris
    9. Two new pages added ... http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/82601.html http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/82622.html I hope the added text makes interesting reading and goes same way to explaining the war as seen by the men of this branch of service. Best Chris
    10. Flamethrower troops EK doc with a writeup about the action the man took part in to get the award... http://www.kaiserscross.com/44901/home.html
    11. Thanks to Chip I was able to capture this piece and do some research into the action...... Hope you enjoy it :-) http://www.kaiserscross.com/44901/home.html
    12. Hi, For some time I have been working on the theory, (and so far it seems to be sure) that soldiers getting the EK for service (including those back in Germany) got one with a black ribbon. Everyone outside of Germany (in occupied areas) got the black ribbon, even if 500 kms away from the front. So a black ribboned EK with non combatant medals is by no means unusual. best Chris
    13. WOW!!!!! That is a superb bit of History, a great bit of family history and an outstanding group of militaria.... it kicks butt on all fronts!
    14. Indeed a small world :-) I used to send lots of nice stuff to Bill, I hope all have found happy homes.
    15. I think I have a doc for a black one to a marinekorps officer... must have a look and see....
    16. Rather dangerous... especially when you hear the rumours of some nasty doings by the Russian mafia in the Militaria scene in Germany....
    17. A comment to the bar question. I know a number of legionnaires from the 2nd REI that added the "Infantry" bar to their national defense medal although they did not qualify for it. Guys from the 3rd REI apparently did. This was because the 3rd is pure infantry and the 2nd has APCs and are mechanised infantry. There is no Mech Inf bar so they go without. Adding the bar does not give any great distinction, it just ppints to your branch. Added to "add ons" like this, most bars are made by tailors who mount from a grab bag of goodies, and I am sure there are a number of errors that occur. They tailor tunics all day and slap together ribbon bars at tea time.... plenty of room for error...
    18. I had often thought the little flap to close the shooting hole was a waste, especially if used out in the open, or the edge of a tzrench, but the last photo shows that of cemented into a bunker it would be useful.
    19. One can be seen here.. http://www.ewolfs.com/past_auctions/mar_art01/546.html
