    1. The printed photo album of the 5 RD has some pics of this. The casualties shown seem to be "Russians hit by artillery", "Russians mown down" etc. No flamethrower pics though.
    2. Hi, there are a couple of WW2 makers who had the bump, cannot remember which ones (off hand). best Chris
    3. I saw a couple of printed lists online today (from a shop in Berlin I think), I think it was the 1801 and 180?? priced at EUR270 and EUR2??. PM me if they are of interest and I will see if I can find them again. best Chris
    4. Don, I just found the Regt history and a book called "the 180th on the Somme" Both seem a bit dry with little about the men themselves. Regt histories are very hit and miss.... some dry as a good fart, some action packed.
    5. So.... any new ones turned up since this posting? Nice crosses guys!!
    6. Hi Rick, It seems he commanded the 1st company at the beginning of the campaign, the award was made just after their (1st batln) big action.... but he just dissapears from the regt history, not mentioned why or when. If there is any info i would be very greatfull. thanks Chris
    7. I wonder if he has a 3rd one on his undershirt, and a 4th one tattoed for bath time ;-)
    8. I once had a catalog from the early 30's... you could buy 1870 and 1914 crosses from them... An 1870 EK1 cost the same as a 1914 EK1 :-) What a pity they did not have photos....
    9. Does anyone know when the cotton became silk weave? I have some NC ribbon from a pre WW1 roll... it is silk weave, a finer weave than the later WW1 ribbons... At what stage between 1871 and 1914 did they start producing ribbons like that? Thanks Chris
    10. I remember once buying 30cm's of 1870 NC ribbon from a smalltime dealer who had a roll of it from a tailor. I cannot remember how, but somehow it was evident from the design on the cardboard that it was 19th century. The killer price of 1DM a cm... I should have taken the whole roll !!!!!!
    11. Kicking this up to the top to try and reawaken the thought... .....Has anyone any examples of a sure postumous award....? I am bekomming more and more sure they do not exist, and would be interested if someone could produce one. Thanks Chris
    12. Hi, do you mean the guy on the left? It looks like it on the scan, but that cannot be seen on the photo. Best Chris
    13. I used to have a WW1 era 1870 cross mounted like that, I think there was a Deschler button on the back of the ribbon so you could wear it in a (lapel?) buttonhole.
    14. I cannot add to the medal... but I have about half a dozen different versions of the "Che" T-shirt... should I add them :-)
    15. This is from a DKiG group. at some stage the hook broke off and the guy riggred up another hook (or wire). Any idea who made it?
    16. Yup indeed, thats the one. Are they anything special as far as rarity go? Best Chris
    17. I saw one of these today, the hinge and hook were not soldered on, but are part of the badge. Anyoneone know if GWL made these? Is it a rare maker? Thanks Chris
    18. Naaah.. picked it up 4 weeks ago. EUR21 was not that bad.
    19. I am holding thumbs... I got the Milit?rpass as well.
    20. well, we did not, but it seems the first one has arrived! Welcome!
    21. I found an unusual one on ebay.... Published in 1915 in Stuttgart, with index and corrections in seperate booklets... Rangliste: der Beh?rden und Truppenteile im Bereich des stellv. Generalkommandoes XIII. (K.W.) Armeekorps. Anyone seen one of these before ??
    22. A silly question.... what do you do aganst moths and dust?
    23. Indeed... I knew "Baldrick" was in "Blackadder"... it seems his wild scottish cousin "Baldrob" is in "The thin blue line"... I love Rowan Atkinson series!!!
    24. Rick is wowed every day he wakes up and realise "they" did not come to take him away while he slept... and after having just spent over 2 weeks killing time at a hotel in Medellin where every day at the pool I got to see women of the upper class laying around sunning themselves in the final stages of recovering from boob jobs (for which medellin is pretty well known) its not some tin and cloth that is going to WOW! me .... ;-) But on a medal level its nothing I would sniff at ;-).... good man! Proud to know someone who owns a bar like that!! I just got lucky on a white ribboned set today :-))))))
    25. Hear me now and believe me later... Al Capone... they could not get him for being a gangster... so they got him for tax evasion. They cannot get this guy for spreading his B.S. ... so they will probably nail him for stolen valor.
