Hi Jim, Sadly, many have the attitude that the items are theirs, and they can do as they please.....very true indeed, but this is not the mentality of someone who considers themselves as curators/custodians of history. One of the problems with some folks on say....e-bay is that #1, they are not history-minded collectors, and #2 they are keenly aware that there are serious collectors who will pay almost any amount to keep a group together. Knowing this, these sellers deliberately split groups into single item auctions, and reference "other items from the same individual" in the auction because they know that their profit will probably be double or triple the price they would have received for a "group" auction. I have seen it many times, and it does bother me greatly.

Nice new badges Ronny, and I am glad to know that my "children" are in very good hands. -

Hi all, I have seen only one other box like this one. The example I saw had an engraved pocket watch that was suspended from the hook in question... -

Hi Dave, This is basically along the same line of conversation that I had with L. Jackson years ago. No mass produced pieces....but a few test cases, if you will. BTW....good to see you "over here" too.

Hi Jim, I know this is an old thread, but Maybe a little "bump" will encourage some other new members (like myself) from the other forum to stop in and say...Hello!

I would very much like to believe that the projectiles are from York's .45. But I think before looking on this finding as what it is claimed to be, more questions remain. For instance, it would be important to confirm if any skirmishes occurred before and after York's stand at that location. As someone else said, It is very hard for me to believe that no other .45 caliber pistols were ever fired at that location....but wouldn't it be a find if the projectiles were definitely proved to be York's based on ballistics (as Daniel eluded to) and .45 brass were not found anywhere else but along York's path!!!

Hi Dan, Good question, I believe that they are brass with a gold plating applied to them. On a related note, about 17 years ago, Lowell Jackson of "Pieces of History" had a table set up at a local gunshow. On this table, he had at least 5 MOH's, two of which were said to be real gold. I have been told that there were limited "test" examples if you will, struck from varying precious metals with the thought of possibly striking future examples from gold or silver. But the idea was abandoned because the government did not want the actual medal to carry an intrinsic monetary value that would subject it to the possibility of being destroyed, defaced, or melted for the precious metal content. Maybe someone else can give a more definitive answer, but this is the information that I have to date.

Here is one that I err...uhhhh...have knowledge of. It sleeps in the same type of case posted by Marcus (but with "Medal of Honor" in gold on the front), and has the ribbon-but no rosette....from what I remember seeing.

The flag on the left has very early hardware on the hoist edge, and is strongly reinforced. The fly end is tattered. Overall porportions are approx 4.5 ft. X 11 ft. The flag on the right is a Swiss Canton flag (Geneva), and is in very fragile condition. My estimate, based on hardware is that it is from the 1930's or 40's. An overall shot of this will follow.
