    1. JapanX, That is exactly what I was talking about. You obviously like to get the last word in too so I will leave it and this thread to you.
    2. I was in Berlin from 89-91. No certificates then either.
    3. Perhaps he gave it up so he could get the Japanese perspective entered into history. The english sub titles make perfect sense. They were probably added during the interview as I'm sure Fuchida was asked the meanings of things. Why would it not be added to the original report? Did they have a copy available? And why do you get so combative when someone presents comments that oppose your views? You cannot have a conversation if we all agree now can we? As for giving things away, I gave all my uniforms away except for one set within a year of being out. They didn't mean anything to me but the neighborhood kids liked them for paintball.
    4. By that stage of the war I'm sure that sentiment was gaining popularity.
    5. Regimental runners would deliver messages to either higher HQ or Bn HQs correct? Neither of those were in the front line so perhaps the need for a weapon was not as great as the need for speed.
    6. I'm surprised it wasn't confiscated after the war....
    7. Perhaps a calculated buy based upon this thread here.
    8. With these you must be very cautious. Almost only works in horseshoes and handgrenades.
    9. I figured that when you said "funny revolver" it meant you were drinking.....
    10. The revolver looks like a holster to me.
    11. He is "sure" because he is sure a 7th class should bring more money.
    12. This is the guy: V.Feldwbl. Linck Wilh 2./180 I. Rgt.
    13. It doesn't match any shown in Carsten Baldes' book.
    14. Thanks. Did he have a son in the same regiment?
    15. Who was the Regimental Commander at the start of the war? The unit history says it was Oberst v. Lind and normally I would go with that but the CDR was wounded in late August (officially replaced 1 Sep) so he does not feature much in the history which was written in 1920. On this site he is listed as Oberst v. Linck: http://www.militaerpass.net/26rd.htm So who is correct?
    16. It would be better to post the pics I think.
    17. I think his picture in the Wehrpass says it all. That stern look says he knows what he is in for and he's not happy.
    18. I agree on all of the above.
    19. As one of the few named German awards I think they have a certain appeal.
    20. Issue badges were made of steel. Tombak was a war critical metal. Once the war was over it became available for other purposes.
    21. Don't have a single but I like the porn mustache that he sports. Its so 70's.
    22. Look at it this way Eric, if they didn't dig it up and preserve it in another 100 years it won't exist. I've been to many Civil War battlefields. The route of Picket's Charge at Gettysburg is a must. A trip to Verdun with Chris as a guide is another must.
