    1. Cool! I have looked for decades for a photo of these being worn. Given the Germans' adoration with music and the popularity of music associations (even today) one would think I could find one- but so far no luck.
    2. very cool. It kills me that in the early 1990s Hollywood Studios sold off their warehouse of original uniforms; I remember seeing original 1918 German greatcoats- piles of them- at $50 each.
    3. Maybe it was a Liberian diplomat. A quick google search shows that Liberia maintained an emabssy there and had a legation in the early 1900s-Weimar.
    4. Oh there is demand- esp. in the brave new world of eBooks and kindle publishing. I would LOVE to see this information -JOMSA article or BDOS article perhaps? Does RR kow about this yet? Also, WMK= my bad phrasing for War Aid Cross (VfKh) of Prussia. Bravo!
    5. Whooooa Nelly! Your study of awards to the Prussian Mining administration? :0 Any conclusions? How many white banded EKs? WMKs? Any chance of an article?
    6. Hmmmm... I have no clue. Some sort of patriotic piece maybe?
    7. Mine too...Dave, Dave Danner? Paul? Some of the other imperialists will know the waffenfarbe instantly.
    8. Yup- might work, but private researchers usually find out a lot more and there are squadren associations about. Do you have his pay book at all? Any snaps? the planes would tell us, but there were only 3 RAF (not SAAF) in Ethiopia and then to have a Defense medal AFTER he enlisted in 1941?...sniffs Malta service to me and 223 were there before they jumped off to Italy.
    9. I'd wager your Granddad was either in RAF squadron 14 or 223 (probably 223)...maybe as grounds crew, but who knows? Given the defense medal I 'd wager big money that it was squadren 223. Any chance we can see his Name/number and look him up in Ancestry?
    10. Aw drat- Dave is right- having consulted my "big Book of Saxe Gotha" that chap in the front is definetly one of the proud owners of the 97 awarded Carl Eduard Kreigskreuzs and wearing the post war warcross for IR 95 members. ...and the flag has the Saxe Coburg borders....no jolly Bavarians there.
    11. wow! I mean. Wow! That is a really early vets/ Stahlhelm/royalists photo- Bavarian i think. The "L" I think looks like the Luisabund badge. Is there anyway you can blow up that codgers' medal bar? I think i see a British medal and the very rare Alfons shooting commemorative medal. Let me look in my notes. @ 1921? The guy with the Brunswick and Saxewazzit 1st class should be easy to id. Man, I wish i had that cane!
    12. well, the EK looks wonderful- I love the original ribbon. I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. It is magnetic? The hat seems to be a standard army cap with the Bavarian cockade sewn. I know zero about hats. sorry.
    13. I have never seen a trapazoid mount in photos for Napoleonic vets- but i suspect they existed as they ere easier to wear and seem to be shown in contemporary prints.
    14. wow!!! I'd LOVE to see that medal bar! He must've left an account of Tirah somewhere. whoops- after a quick snout round googlebooks, Credner did leave a full book on his accounts of the Afghan "troubles" and was a member of the Frankfurt geographical society. I also see his medals were sold at Neate's auction in November, 2011 after being removed from his medal bar obviously as a Captain in IR 137) and misidentified as his Uncles"?
    15. any chance its the red cross medal? Odd though- I would have expected the Bavarian LS medal- esp. with the BMMC2x.
    16. You mean the present rank? I thought the rank was defunct. This is the present Peruvian Army Commander-
    17. Very cool! I don't suppose Dr. Firth left behind any memoirs at all?
    18. Thanks- who published the WO1x? I shall call Rick. Maybe he has an extra. What are you working on? Anything Hansa?
    19. Ok I am confused (Oh Rick and Glenn-where art thou?). Do the Sternrose indicate officer status, are an embellishment or indicate Beamter status?
    20. -Hmmmmm...His file must be on those SS files that Mark M. had available a few years back. he was commander of the Hungarian SS Division......Hunyadi?
    21. Sharon Stone also got one and she did absolutely nothing worthwhile for anyone but herself-except dispense sexual favors (allegedly) during her time in Paris- under the old regime. Silly French.
    22. wow!!!! Actually, there was a diplomat's documents/medals sold a few years back (Spinks?) that showed that EK2 WB ribbon were also given to diplomats etc. abroad. This guy as I recall was stationed in Istanbul during the war as a navy liaison. Makes you wonder if this bar was his assistant's at the legation.
