    1. Thanks Chris! I have got the feeling this bar has already "cannibalized"... I hope not! ;-)
    2. Hi! Wonderful group you have... my Grand-father was Swiss (like me) and fought in the Foreign Legion in Indochina. ciao, Claudio
    3. Claudius, Paul and Chris Thanks for your kind words... if the moderator of this subforum thinks more appropriate to move this thread under the section "The Lounge", please be my guest! Ciao, Claudio
    4. Dear forumites, I just wanted to inform you that unfortunately this Bavarian 7-placed medal bar has been stolen on his way by mail (Hermes) from Germany to Sweden. The package was opened and resealed with another tape color. I immediately knew that something was wrong when I got the package in my hands, because it felt so strangely light. I already panicked to the thought that this wonderful bar in pristine conditions might have been stolen, since I also noticed the strange tape, different from the one underneath it. I post the pictures (front and back) of this bar here, just in case that somebody sees it reappearing on the internet or market. Hopefully this bar hasn't been already cannibalized... the only consolation is that if also the thieve sells medal by medal, he won't capitalize to much on his crime. Ciao, Claudio
    5. Hi WC! I love your medal bar... especially that Offiziers-DA at the end of the bar... so rarely seen mounted on a bar! ciao, Claudio
    6. Nice bar... especially the ribbons' folding (bows on the reverse). The only Imperial era decorations on this bar are the Iron Cross 2nd class and the LS cross, which could still have been bestowed by the Prussian state until after the war in some occasions. The Austrian-Hungarian-Bulgarian trio of WWI commemorative medals have been applied in the 30ies, after all the veterans' unofficial decorations have been prohibited to be worn on such bars. This very bar could have been put together between 1935-1938 as you rightly said, but it is nice to see posted here in this forum. Claudio
    7. My brother's find... these (reservists and veterans crosses) are really fun to collect; so many types and so many regiments...
    8. Ja, Rudi, schade... vielleicht das nächste Mal... Here another find (my brother's)... nothing from the Imperial era, but nonetheless in stone mint conditions and with a very nice and rarely seen tag on the reverse of the bar. Notice also the double folding of the ribbons' "rosetten" (bow). That's what I call quality. Therefore I am usually not so excited by huge bars, but so un-neatly sewn together.
    9. @ Komtur: nice! Is it some sort of official or semi-official prussian award for long service (50 years) in the forestry domain? @ Rujab: I think that I have seen that Miniatures chain on a table... beautiful combination, very likely researchable.
    10. Hi Sascha! Yeah, it's a pity... I read your mail when I was already travelling. I hope to make it next year... ;-)
    11. Thanks guys for your nice words. @ Claudius: no, it's normal sized Rettungsmedaille (OEK 1867)... these medals were quite small. Another bar I picked up at Gunzenhausen, coming from an auction.
    12. ... and the back. Please note also the CEJ (C.E. Juncker, Berlin) markings on the reverse of the FEK (Hindenburg Cross). Ciao, Claudio
    13. The marker marks on the FHHO... it goes well with the "Ordenlieferant/Juwelier" who put together this bar!
    14. Here's the picture of the back... That's a nice one for a Godet fetish like me... ;-)
    15. Dear forumites Here's is mine latest bar acquired in Gunzenhausen: Preußen, Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914 am Kämpferband (OEK 1909), E gs/S Preußen, Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe, 1916-24 (OEK 1966), sv Hohenzollern, Fürstlich Hohenzollernscher Hausorden, Ehrenkreuz 3. Klasse mit Krone und Schwertern (OEK 1035/3) S/Sv, Herst. Godet 938 Weimarer Republik, Deutsche Ehrendenkmünze des Weltkrieges (DN 2.02.17 a) Preußen, Landwehr-DA 2. Klasse, Medaille 1913-1920 (OEK 1979), Ku Kaiserreich Österreich-Ungarn, silbernes Verdienstkreuz The Fürstlich Hohenzollernscher Hausorden 3rd class with crown and swords is nicely marked Godet. Has anyone been in Gunzenhausen and would be so nice to show his finds? Ciao, Claudio
    16. It's an Austrian post WWI veterans' cross: Ehrenkreuz der österreichischen Ehrenlegion.
    17. Only 183 in 1916-17? I have other numbers: Friedrichskreuz 2. Klasse am Kämpferband: ca. 18’000 – 20’000 Friedrichskreuz 2. Klasse am Nichtkämpferband: ca. 700 – 800
    18. Dear John, From this picture you can't really begin to research very much about the bar; v.Schröder could have also been a mere soldier or NCO. The medals on this medal bar are very common: EK2 (5'000'000 awarded), KVK2 with or without swords (also millions), Hamburg Hansa cross (over 50'000), not to speak about the FEK (Hindy cross as you call it), pratically awarded to every WWI veteran who was still alive in 1934-35 and applied for it. Furthermore more than 10'000'000 German soldiers in the Army during WWI. As you can see the odds to find something on v.Schröder are pratically zero. Only the family could provide with more information. Usually families keep rather documents than medals, maybe there are somewhere hidden in some drawer or maybe they have been destroyed or thrown away, like his KVK2 (de-nazification process after WW2). The majority of the Germans just wanted to forget the war after 1945. ciao, Claudio
    19. As WC rightly said and I'd like to add, a picture of the whole medal bar (front and back) would help even more... for a starter it would prove that the medal bar is in your collection and that you are not merely posting such questions for increasing the profit of a possible deal you intend to make. Sorry for being so direct... Claudio
