    1. Red Eagle Order 2nd class without oak leaves on white ribbon with black stripes: Only once awarded to Prof. August Gärtner on August 18th 1918. As it should be in silver gilded. Regards, Komtur.
    2. I have not, because the ribbons and the stitching are fine. Having done it just now, there were no glowing at all. Regards, Komtur.
    3. Just by chance I got this pure noncombattant Mecklenburg bar: 1.) Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse am Nichtkämpferband 2.) Militär-Verdienstkreuz Mecklenburg-Schwerin 1914 am Nichtkämpferband 3.) Sachsen Kriegsverdienstkreuz 4.) Ritterkreuz des Hausordens der Wendischen Krone Mecklenburg-Schwerin 5.) Gedächtnismedaille Großherzog Friedrich Franz III. 1897 Mecklenburg-Schwerin No doubt the person who owned this bar was a Mecklenburg-Schwerin subject. I try to find suspects in the Großherzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerinschen Staatskalender of 1916. The best matching person is a civil servant, Ernst von Blücher (1854-1930). He is registered in the 1916 Staatskalender with the three Mecklenburg decorations, but no others. Unfortunately I have no later edition of the Staatskalender to search for other suspects and to look for Blüchers possibly later awards. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Komtur.
    4. Thanks Claudio and Bernhard. Very instructive thread Regards, Komtur.
    5. Zeige Auction No 39 (24th of September 2011) limit 1.800 Euro and sold for 2.700 + 641 extra pay = 3.341 Euro. I´m not quite sure, but suppose Weitze offered the bar for something 4000+ Euro (4500?).
    6. So it may be of interest for you, that he had English roots: His grandfather was Hugh Halkett, his granduncle Colin Halkett.
    7. Colin Freiherr von Halkett (22.11.1867-30.08.1924), Commander IR 182 16.02.1916- 08.1916
    8. Indeed! In that case it was a mixture of slight doubts, costiveness and stupidity that let me pass this little gem. As we say in our little country Strafe muss sein! Regards, Komtur.
    9. Me too I am cross about myself. I had this bar in my hands in Gunzenhausen twice and looked at it at the online shop lots of time. I could not find a name for the bar and had some doubts because of the curious fixed pin on reverse. And now we have an orderbar of a quite famous opera singer. I love these hard to identify civilians. What a find! Congrats to the new owner. Regards, Komtur. His entry from "Wer ist´s" of 1914.
    10. These you will find in the above mentioned Lehmann, Gustaf: Die Ritter des Ordens pour le mérite. 1740-1913, also sold for 196 Euro by editio militaris.
    11. Möller, Hans: Geschichte der Ritter des Ordens "pour le mèrite" im Weltkrieg, Berlin 1935 (two volumes) The original books you find sometimes for about 400 Euro. A reprint for 196 Euro sells editio militaris. There you can also get for the same price the two Lehmann volumes with all plm holders before WW1. Möller and Lehmann gives biografical informations, but no portraits. May be, these books are still to be found in any library digitalized? Regards, Komtur.
    12. That´s right. BUT: The second picture must be wrong, because the Oak Leaves were given only to natives and NOT to foreigners. So black and white ribbon and Oak Leaves OR statuary ribbon and no Oak Leaves
    13. I was trying, but unfortunately not. But many thanks for your input
    14. Variant No 10, until now I found this one on 12 different order bars. It is also shown in a catalogue of AWS from 1908. So it is quite sure an old and original one version of the Oak leaves. Regards, Komtur.
    15. The Beyreiß book you can get easily new, may be you can get it somwhere else used and cheaper. Regards, Komtur.
    16. Oberst von Glasenapp Oberst von Oppen Oberstleutnant von Hohnhorst Oberst Hohnhorst Oberstleutnant Freiherr von Ledebur Oberstleutnant Heye Oberst v. Taysen Oberstleutnant Selkmann Oberst von Normann "more awards after 1918 are possible" According to Friedhelm Beyreiß Der Hausorden und die tragbaren Ehrenzeichen des Großherzogtums Oldenburg Regards, Komtur.
    17. Hm, unfortunately the edition of older parts of this thread is impossible . So I have to change it in that way ... dedehansen. Yours was variant 3 Nr. 8.
    18. I would like to do so too! But it is currently not so in vogue, as it was before in my little hometown
