Hi all, It's interesting to see other people with connections with the 3rd Carpathian rifles and Monte Cassino. I too have an interest in that I have a VM awarded to a Major Ludomir Tarkowski killed there, would any one with surviving relatives/connections have any info on him, thread is here Thanks Alex K http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16929&st=0&p=173448&hl=virtuti%20militari&fromsearch=1&#entry173448

Hi nice link. It took me about an hour to complete. I use Photoshop V4.1, and OLD piece of software (Windows 950, but it still works with XP.) Facial features can be tricky but with some patience, lifelike features can be achieved. Its fun. regards another example regards Alex -

Hi Mike, anything is possible!, I alway believe that soldiers were not always perfectly attired, hence the undone pocket,( not always noticed on a B/W image, however when studying B/W images a lot becomes clearer), it would not be a major problem to re=adjust the image if desired, to me it would however be changing the reality of the original image. Attached. regards Alex K -

Cost of medals
Alex K replied to muckaroon1960's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
In the end, if we're all to be completely honest, we all talk about the interest in collecting our chosen items and costs are secondary to the pleasure of owning the item, this may well be true. The reality is that whilst we may pay lip service to this notion, we all like to feel that we have been very prudent or intuitive in obtaining a rare/valuable item or one which, in time will become such. When the time comes to "Move the Item on" preconceived ideas as to values, real or otherwise, based on unrealistic Internet sales rooms takes over and this will in itself generate an completely unrealistic impression of a pieces worth. Unfortunately, the Internet sales rooms sites are full of numpties with far greater cash than brains which rack up values to a far higher level than they really deserve. By all means enjoy your collection, feel, touch, stroke or any other way that you communicate with your beloved pieces, but the reality is, with the exception of a very few exceptionally rare pieces, common sense should prevail Just a thought Alex K -
