    1. The provenance is a bit like that old song- I knew a man who danced with a girl who danced with the Prince of Wales. I will have to buy a few VC ribbons and attribute them to Guy Gibson, Chard, Bromhead and Leonard Cheshire and make up a couple of double bars attributed them to Upham, Chavasse. I see the way forward to early retirement. Paul
    2. Sorry nobody of that number received and IDSM between 1914-21, they ceased to be the 69th Punjabis in 1922 and were absorbed into the 2/2 Punjab regt. Paul
    3. On the numismatic side coins and banknotes still make considerably more than ODM and when it comes to upside-down stamps the prices are phenomenal. Paul
    4. Yes the type on the left is somewhat rarer than the normal type, however it does not seem to make appreciably more. Paul
    5. It is a complete monstrosity, which will make my research timing 10 times as long at least. Why cant they stick to the old phrase If it aint broke don't fix it. Paul
    6. Look forward to meeting him again, I thought he only dealt in Islamic and Ancient coins. Paul
    7. I suspect It will still be on his list when I am collecting my old age pension (still a few years yet to go). Paul
    8. Complete collection of Army of India medals to Indian recipients, all bars and combinations represented. If your friend can come up with this then my soul is his. Paul
    9. Thanks for sharing Gavin. Paul
    10. CB, The British group without the Chinese award is worth the estimate in pounds rather than NZ dollars. So it seems you value the gold medal at less than the scrap. I already have a client of mine who would sell his soul to Satan if he ended up getting it at the estimate. Paul
    11. The Military Merits are all pre 1937, the war decoration pieces Great War period, nice grouping. Paul. I suspect you are probably right on your dating for the Bravery cross. Paul
    12. As we have serious air pollution in London at present may be I ought to invest in one to keep the smog out of my lungs. Paul
    13. Thank you so much for the information most helpful Paul
    14. Fantastic collection (a few old friends amongst them). I just hope I can win the lottery tonight and see the collection in person. Paul
    15. I believe the answer to the latter part of your question is that the orders should be returned to the Central Chancery on the death of the recipient. Paul
    16. Very nice with the case. Paul
    17. Chuck I have checked auction records and I can confirm that neither a silver or gold specimen has turned up for sale in the last 13 years, bronze novodels (official restrikes of the late 19th century) do turn up from time to time of the Nicholas I and Alexander II issues and make a few hundred dollars, however an original silver striking such as yours would be worth many times more and would elicit quite a bit of interest from the Russian collecting fraternity. Paul
    18. I wonder if the poster on the AHF was the original peddler of these blasphemies and put them on the site to give them a false sense of legitimacy (it's not the first time something of that nature has occurred). Paul
    19. At least they didn't get the Milosh but my oh my what a mark up. Paul
    20. Yours is the version by Grillisches, an extremely rare and much sought after medal. Paul
    21. Now that is something else. Paul
    22. I have encountered them before but this is an exceptional piece, possibly Rothe made? Paul
    23. This I am afraid is at best a later fantasy, the storming Geok Tepe took place during the reign of Alexander II and the cypher on the original is that of Alexander II, unfortunately the producer of this was not too hot on his history. Paul
