    1. Those scare me; especially for the prices these go for. I hope that you get good news on it.
    2. Why not just make the entire badge out of the bakelite? Is it too fragile?
    3. I have one of those(Humanitarian Service Medal). It is one of those where I like the reverse better than the obverse. I considered removing the pendent and reversing it. Thanks Lukasz! I know where there is another if you are interested. It is the rare second variation too!
    4. Hi George! Thanks! The medal changed to its current format in 1968. Behold another crappy "upgrade." This is what we have today. :-(
    5. I just acquired this rare beauty. It is a type one Coast Guard Commendation Medal that was in use from 1947 until 1968. As these had to be approved by the service Commandant, they are much more difficult to earn than the Commendation Medals of other branches of service. The style of the CG Commendation Medal was completely changed after it shifted from the Treasure Dept in 1967, to the Dept of Transportation. It is a real shame because I like this style much better. After a quick search on line, much information was found on Capt Ayers and the operation he completed to earn this very medal. I was able to find a photo for sale on line with him receiving this very citationed award. When it comes in, I will post an image of it versus the Ebay marked photo below.
    6. I am suprised that there is no WW2 service noted. Can you please post an image of the entire uniform. I love the medical insignia.
    7. Per post number 13 above, it seems as if it was? I am sorry, but I am confused.
    8. Now... since the award was authorized for WW2 in the 1950s, did combatants who fought and fell under Mussolini(and Germany) receive one as well?
    9. It is the best Dutch grouping I have seen. I bet that this one belonged to a senior officer, maybe even a General? What are the Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau with the swords and the Dutch New Guinea Cross awarded for?
    10. I have never seen this medal before. These must be fairly common awards, right?
    11. Was it on a minister's uniform or a military officer's uniform? That would be a great photograph to find!
    12. Regardless, I really like the workmanship! Very intricate!
    13. Thank you! I hope to do it little bits at a time. I guess the center most medal will be the most expensive.
    14. I think that it is possible that it was worn in this way, but from the sounds of it, it would be an easily spotted error by just about every vet. I see tons of folks in today's military that are wearing the wrong medals. Most remedy the issue once being made aware of it.
    15. moving article! Thank you for sharing it. It is hard to believe that there are still 4 million combatants from that war still unaccounted for.
    16. These boards are great. Thanks Lorenzo. Anyone else have any of these higher level insignia to share?
    17. Here is a set of insignia.... and a uniform.
    18. I just picked up this item. It is an insignia for a Cabinet member. Has anyone seen an insignia like this before? I assume that it is a lapel pin for civilian cloths. A definite personality item. What are your thoughts?
    19. I did not think it was possible for a single person to accumulate all of those stars.
