    1. Chris, you'll like this story: about twenty years ago a collector friend of mine was approached by a co-worker, who had found some medals in his dad's safe after he died. The father was a jeweller, not a collector. It turned out to be a Boer DSO and QSA medal, named to a Canadian mounted officer. I believe only five DSO's were given to Canadians in the conflict. The pair wound up in the military museum in Ottawa, if my memory is correct. I had the opportunity to handle these, and boy what a great pair of items.
    2. Great photo of a real Prussian hero. Mackensen supposedly still fit into his subaltern's uniform at this age.
    3. Those ribbons look awfully fresh, especially when looking at the wear to the MVO. Also, the EK2 looks very minty. I'm always suspicious of bars with uneven wear.
    4. Great stuff, and ditto to what Rick said about that beautiful spange. I'm looking for the 1813, 1814 and 1813\14 non-combat medals of Prussia. Just got a mint 1863 non-combat.
    5. Gentlemen, I have this officer as a Hauptmann with Schleswig-Holsteinsches Fussartillerie-Regiment Nr. 9, then later as a Major und Artillerie Offizier vom Platz in Marienburg. Any other details of course much appreciated.
    6. Maybe I'm confused, but I thought the KO4 am Erinnerungsband was only awarded with the Geneva Cross.
    7. Komtur, I was looking at your spange as well, but it looks like the KO4 with Genf-Kreuz was swapped for a regular KO4?
    8. Congratulations on this excellent spange, absolute beauty. Anything ex-Seymour is bound to be special.
    9. Heiko, sorry to hear about that one, who was the vice-admiral? Wild Card, isn't that a Khedive's Star combo? Surely one-of-a-kind.
    10. BTTT. So, nobody has a spange in their collection with an English decoration? I find that hard to believe.
    11. That looks like a good one, congratulations. I have one of these with a group from a Bavarian who went to China.
    12. Ulan, I would be very surprised if your bar is period, although the medals do look genuine.
    13. Quite right, Claudio, I'm surprised someone paid that much for such a questionable item.
    14. Correct, and I don't buy this explanation. The Germans were notorious for wearing feldspanges with not-in-fashion ribbons. My uncle wore one until 1945 with the Afrika ribbon on it.
    15. Thanks for posting the photos, Claudio. I thought the hardware far too modern looking.
    16. Very nice combo on this bar. I only have one with a pre-1914 Mecklenburg MVK, so I know these are not growing on trees.
    17. Patrick, that is a little odd. If what he's saying is correct, then the Afrika medal on the end should have been cut off as well in 1943.
    18. I have this individual as with 3. Dragonnerregiment Prinz Karl No. 22 in 1908. If anyone can add to this, it would be most welcome.
    19. Anyone have any thoughts on the EK 1 sold by Detlev Niemann today? Sorry, I don't have a link.
    20. Matt, that is a great start to bar collecting (understatement of the century). I have collected Imperial bars for some time, and can vouch for the addictive nature of the hobby.
