Several uniforms have recently come into my custody that have a reported provenace from a "museum in Tiblisi". While some aspects of this bother me (a lot), I know the variable realities. Given the volatile (at best) nature of Soviet unoiform collecting -- may I show you some of my my scars? -- I am reluctant, at present, to post these fully and publically. In the interim, may I request assiastance on the stamps inside two of these tunics? 1-

Soviet Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz
Ed_Haynes replied to Christophe's topic in Russia: Soviet: Other Militaria
No help, make us all S U F F E R!!!!!!!!!!!! I have sinned in that regard, I confess. -
That was my sense ... not so much historical or phaleristic as genealogical. My interests (Indian troops in Egypt. in Gallipoli, in Mesopotamia in East Africa or elsewhere) fell flat . . . SLAT. Might be no particular surprise? Good forum, for sure, but every forum has its own limiting boundaries? And one must learn through experiment the strengths/weaknesses of each.

I may have one, maybe, but I (too) am incredibly confused. Educate me, please . . . . -
Given what is involved in doing the research (archival research is a lot of work, more so in Tsar Putin's Russia), I see the cost or research as quite reasonable. Just wish the timetables were kinder to finite patience. Don't desecrate history, please. Let someone else adopt them. (Hint, hint . . . )

The section of the "Sky Blue Bible" that deals with these is quite rich, but also quite complex, far more than just the "simple" linguistic issues. This will take some time to disentangle. I am, however, hoping to get an early translation of at least one table (p. 184):

The Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal
Ed_Haynes replied to Taz's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
The Times 7 November 2007 Veterans barred from wearing medal LONDON - Thousands of veterans of the war in Borneo in the 1950s and 1960s who have recently received special medals from the Malaysian Government will be barred from wearing them at Remembrance Day services this Sunday. Last week alone, hundreds of ex-soldiers who fought communist rebels in the jungles of Borneo were presented with the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) medal, right. Under a longstanding ruling, veterans are not allowed to wear two medals for the same campaign and they were previously awarded a General Service Medal for their service in Borneo. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2821106.ece
