Yes! I forgot to say that what I thought was the Centenary must be his Württemberg LS award! So your guy was in even earlier. No Zahlmeister, maybe, with an NCO LS? (OK, were there any Zahlmeister with WM3?) The biblio series says Freye died 28/10/1952 in Ulm. BTW, if anyone is interested, I'll probably let this go as I don't collect photos.

So here we have: EK2, Württemberg MVO, Württemberg Friedrich Order, ÖM3K, Hindenburg, maybe Centenary, maybe Crown Order 4th, DSWA, long service 40 + 12 years. This combination identifies this Oberst as the later Generalmajor Johannes Freye (1878-1952). He is shown with the above combination (with PKO4) in the 1924 RL. He entered army service on 1.10.1897 according to his bio, so a bit too late for the Centenary.

I was interested in this one because he is wearing the rare 40 year oakleaves device on his long service ribbons:

Yes, great photo of later General d. Inf. Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm von Kraatz-Koschlau (1817-1897). Several members of the family were Generals.

I can add: He is listed in the Hannoverian 1866 RL as Rittmeister C. (?) Dincklage, seniority 19.5.1858. He was raised to Prussian nobility later.

This might be 'that' Schmidt who was a Reichsheer-Hauptmann (1.4.1924 #6). He is listed in 1924 in the 5. Sanit?ts-Abteilung (Fahrtruppe), and in 1931 in the 5. Artillerie-Reg. His awards are: EK1, BWB, Brunswick Cross 1st cl and Brunswick Cross 2nd cl with Bew?hrungsabzeichen. No idea about first name, where he came from and where he went.

Anyway, Ernst v. Chrismar got the Baden Karl Friedrich Order on 25.8.1915.

May I ask where that information comes from? 'Cause I cannot find them in the lists published by Autengruber.

Of those, I think it could only be Brassart. Chrismar and Kraemer did not get a BMVO3XKr, and the v. Massow who did was an iG type with many other awards. Oberst Brassart was director of the fireworks lab in Spandau. I'm not sure about his first name (Otto Quinn? Quirin? Aquirin?). Can't find any wartime Prussian awards in the MilWochenblatt. But he got the BMVO3XKr on 28.4.1916 and retired as Generalmajor aD. And he was alive in 1935: born 1860, died 1944. Chris

Well, there is a way: Get the DOA 1908/09 CD from Paul, look through the 1700+ pages, and you MIGHT find him. Of course, only if he had himself listed, had not died before, had already got his awards...

Great picture! Here's what I have: Jungnickel ended WW1 as Saxon Major aD. The SS lists show him as Oberstleutnant zV, probably a 1935+ promotion. He made SS-Standartenf?hrer on 30.01.38. His last known assignment was on 9.11.44 to Stab Oberabschnitt Elbe. No death date. As per 1913, he also held a Mecklenburg Griffin Order Knight and a Prussian Crown Order 4th cl, which he doesn't wear here. In 1908, he lived in Dresden, Albertstr. That's all I have. Chris

I found him: Wilhelm Paeschke got a PhD in G?ttingen in natural science on 4th May 1937. The title of his PhD thesis was "Experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Rauhigkeits- und Stabilit?tsproblem in der bodennahen Luftschicht".

Can't tell from here if #2 is really Hamburg, but #3 is the Hungarian WW1 Commemorative Medal 2) Bavarian MVO 4th w/ crown and swords, EK2, Bulgarian Balkan Wars Commemorative Medal 1912-13?? Again: #3 is the Hungarian WW1 Commemorative Medal 3) EK2, Saxe-Meiningen War Merit Cross, Hindenburg w/ swords, ? #3: Some grade of the Red Cross/Volkspflege decoration. 4) Russian St. Stan??, Prussian long service, centennial medal Not sure. 5) EK2, Wurtt. gold or silver Military Merit Medal, Nazi Merit Cross 2nd Cross, a cornicopia of vet ribbons That is an odd combination. Behind the KVK2 seem to be the Bavarian Ludwig Cross, W?rttemberg Merit Cross, Hohenzollern, Baden Jubilee, Bavarian Long Service (?) and ?. That would indicate a Bavarian senior rear-area NCO-equivalent with some peacetime pre-1914 awards, but only the Ludwig Cross from his homestate, who also placed the W?rttemberg medal first. No Hindenburg, but a KVK2. That is odd.
