Austria-Hungary FJO - knights cross
Josef Rietveld replied to Iver's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
@Hugh Only real gold pieces have the locket. Hugh, I don't want to drop a brick. But your commanderscross with swords (must e a bronze/gilt piece) looks to me like an good 1960ies/70ies copy. why do i think so. cause of the missing flingierung under the red enamel. means that the there is a certain kind of pattern UNDER the enamel - that is missing here. the enamel ON the crown is missing aswell regards josef -
Austria-Hungary FJO - knights cross

I have never seen a fjo-knights-chain that wasn't made of gold. I would consider silver or gilt-pieces as rarities. regards josef -
Austria-Hungary FJO - knights cross

Hi iver, a nice one. IMHO you can't date the FJO by modell-variants as there are only two types, small crown, filigran non-hallmarked braun-pieces from 1850 to 1867. Then came new hallmark-system. the most variants i know (beside austrian pieces in bronze/gilt, gold and silver/gilt) come from foreign manufacters. In late 1917 and 1918 clumsier (no red enameled crown-inlay instead the crown was enameld on the outsied marked HUW) were awarded. So there is some variety in austrian-made bronze/gilt pieces dating from 1914 to 1922 (new hallmarks again) Fotos: a bronze/gilt pioece once in my possesion. regards josef -
Hi, you can't exactly say what class this medjidie is. It could be 1st to 4th class depends on the, here lacking, halfmoon/star-suspension above the badge. It is definitely no 5th class - as this class has a silver center medaillon. regards josef

Austria-Hungary Silver merit cross - miniature
Josef Rietveld replied to Iver's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
Hi, i once owned this little chain. but I'am afraid the resolution isn't good eneough for use in article. regards josef -
It is true that the swords on the trifolds had been invented in December 1916 But the ?M3K was NEVER issued to germans WITH swords. As sometimes seen with turkish orders germans later added the swords on their own initiative. I think this person must have been a officer and not a highranking NCO as the ?M3K was limited to officers only. regards josef

Bulgaria Hungarian Medal?
Josef Rietveld replied to Stogieman's topic in Central & Eastern European States
the coat of arms on the medal is serbian. As far as i now the medal is called Military Merit Medal (Milit?rverdienstmedaille 1883) no need to say that the ribbon is wrong. correct would be white-blue-strips simmilar to french ribbons. josef -
@kaigunair, funny you bought it (on ebay). I bid on it just beacuse it looked so wellmade. josef

Austria-Hungary Austrian or italian Luftwaffe
Josef Rietveld replied to Robert Noss's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
IMHO the Offizierstellvertreter on board is Josef Kiss (hungarian Ittebei ?s Elem?ri Kiss J?zsef; * 26. Januar 1896 Pozsony (Now Slovakia) , ? 24. Mai 1918). Kiss (19 confirmed victories) was shot down by the Canadian Gerald Birks. He was attached to Flik55J (Fliegerkompanie) called Kaiserstaffel. Kiss was the ONLY member of the Luftfahrtruppen (air service) who was posthumously promoted to officers rank (Lieutenant). josef -
it is a beautifull mvk-miniature dating from 1867 to 1880 according to the Goldauflage on the KD and the way the backside enamel is done. josef

roman, congrats - a real nice one. the reverse side maybe made of soapstone or tortoise shell? this young IR was deployed 1883. the 18th of August is Kaisergeburtstag - a day used for promotions and decorations josef

1st decoration (from left) is a Goldenes Verdienstzeichen der Republik ?sterreich (founded 1927, from 1934 on it was called ?sterreichisches Verdienstzeichen) The 6th decoration is IMHO NO Long-Service-Award- Unfortunately i don't know what it is. The button-whole-decoration is called Heimwehrehrenzeichen 1934 (or Starhemberg-Bird) and not a vets award. The Heimwehrehrenzeichen was issued by the right-winged Heimwehr (Para-militarian Units commanded by Ernst R?diger F?rst Starhemberg 1899-1956). He joined the Hitler-Putsch 1923 and was among the Nazis as they marched to the Feldherrenhalle, He emmigrated 1937 and lived later 1942-1945 in South-America.) regards josef beautifull pic BTW
