    1. Well, the photos shared has both soldiers appear to wear the combo Eagle and Kokarde along with a clearly visible edelweiss. These hats appear from time to time. I wouldn't suggest getting a reproduction. If a hat is a hard thing to display, perhaps you could do something that is a bit easier. A simple edelweiss, the eagle you shared and any other personal effects you have. Make a little case. Here is a tribute I did to the Mountain troops Gebirgsjäger for some inspiration. Best Regards, JustinG
    2. Looks like the middle man is wearing a luftwaffe tunic ( you can see the eagle is of that style). The Far right soldier It looks like a heer of I dare say a Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery jacket. Now the resolution of the photo will make it extremely hard to say for certain.
    3. Greetings, I just acquired a lovely sales display board from pre 1935. Anyway, there is a piece that was missing from the board. The lower insignia should be the Marine Seeflieger rescue badge like this one. Now, I don't happpen to have one of these insignia. I was also wondering if I should continue to add labels to the piece as well. There were some that managed to survive but there are lots that are missing. So, What are your thoughts? Should I leave it alone. Should I hunt and possibly incorporate this insignia when I get it? Should I add names? This is a period board I believe. I would love to hear the thoughts of the members. What would you do? Best Regards, JustinG Thanks for looking.
    4. Well, I am sorry, I am not able to help you with this endeavor. However, I really like the look of both boards. Very nice detail. Best Regards, Justin
    5. I agree, I guess it depends on the sellers other transactions and "worthiness". Best Regards, JustinG
    6. Greetings, Well, I am a collector of naval tallies/Mützenband. I have also a rather large collection of naval photographs. I enjoy doing photomerge or collages. So, I thought I would start a thread and share some pieces with you. I also have a Wappen collection of these ships and so I can share image merge with you in that way too. Thanks for looking. Best Regards JustinG First up: Zerstörer Hermann Schoemann: hull number 23
    7. Hi Martin W, Yes, I have seen your photo before, it is a great one. I couldn't pass this up for such an incredible attributed piece. Plus, It goes nicely with the other now 30 wappen I have in my collection. Quite the illustrious career that Ludolf Petersen had. The Hilfskreuzer branch of the Kriegsmarine is indeed one of fabled folklore. I know I am talking to the choir on this one. Martin, I know you have an incredible collection of HSK documents, awards and artifacts. I am indeed envious of that. Cheers to you, thanks for reposting your photo of Ludolf Petersen. Best Regards, JustinG
    8. Ludolf Petersen's plaque from the HSK Stier Probably one of the most expensive and rare plaques. Nice to have it attributed as well. This plaque was from Kai Winkler and House of History previously. Just came in the mail today. Best Regards, JustinG
    9. Greetings, These pieces are quite interesting. There are several examples around. Some are from the specific sailor, some are just a jumble. Please show the reverse to see if the tallies are completely around the stuffing pillow. Here is another example which I purchased from emedals. Best Regards, JustinG
    10. Very nice Morten. That is one of the first in wear shot for this unit.
    11. Well, Since no one has taken any time to weigh in: Here's my best guess, it seems to be a period cross. Obviously with a lot of damage. I would love to see a shot showing the seam of this. It looks like a zimmermann piece IMHO. This is just my rough observation. Value is something that ebbs and flows with this. I would think 175USD-240 USD in this condition. This is just my opinion though. Best Regards, JustinG
    12. Greetings, This is a fine grouping. The only thing I am seeing off hand is the Kreuzer Prinz Eugen. The "E" in Eugen is a bit suspect. This is a great field to collect. This is one of my specialty fields, as it is a great way to have a representation of a field unit, shore station, school, or ship. You have a nice frame with it. You say this grouping was from only one sailor? This is quite an array of tallies. Ships and units were able to have tallies until the OKM implemented the mandate that named tallies were no longer to be worn and that they would all use the standard "Kriegsmarine" tally. I have seen provenance of sailors who have served with units and have tallies in their photo albums who were assigned to that particular unit after the order was given. This might be the case here. Sailors could also purchase tallies on their own from canteens and such. Perhaps this person was able to collect other tallies not necessarily from his service units. Anyway, it is a nice collection. I would pass on that bit of information to your friend about the Kreuzer Prinz Eugen piece. This is one of the most heavily faked pieces. Take note of the reverse, this stitching pattern is from the looming process, it has that staggered reverse pattern. Most modern fakes cant replicate this. All the others look pretty good though. Best Regards, Justin G
    13. I am getting started on this model.
    14. Thought I would share my photomerge art with the 22 Named Zerstörer tallies of the Kriegsmarine. Best Regards, JustinG
    15. Brian: First, let me say that I always enjoy reading your blog and your "spot on" comments. Another fine topic with such a broad expansion into so many different facets. I had watched this a week or two ago and when reading your blog, it reminded me of this great quote. There is a great video on the origins of "Who was Murphy in Murphy's Law" Anyway, about mid way through this video, there is this great quote and I think it sums it up quite well to your statement from above. "That's a bunch of Crap!.. That's the way rumors get started, by these people...who weren't even there." "That's the same kind of crap...you get out of guys who were not involved and came in many years after. It's just like Tom Brokaw's book if you'll pardon the analogy here, about the best in breed or something like that." "Well, every guy who wrote his story about World War 2, did it fifty years after it happened. I'm the victim of the same damn thing. I tell it the way I remember it, not the way it happened. I go back and reread a report that I did fifty-five years ago and I say, hmm, I'd better tell that story a little bit different. Well, that's human nature. You tell it the way you believe it and that's not necessarily the way it happened. There's nothing more true than that." "Guy's become, if you'll pardon the expression, sexual intellectuals. You know what the phrase is for that? Sexual Intellectuals. Their F*cking know-it-alls, that's what" -Chuck Yeager Best Regards, JustinG
    16. My Tribute to the S.M.S Derfflinger showing both my silver and Gold Mützenbänder of this ship. Thanks for looking. JustinG
    17. Here is a document that explains the creation of this particular unit.
    18. So wonderful that you were able to re-bring all these items back and form a great collection. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us on the forum. It is very impressive. Best Regards, JustinG
    19. Here is a really rare one. There is also an abbreviated version of this unit. Both are rare and aren't seen too often. I am happy to add it to my collection. Wehrerstatzinspektion Schleswig-Holstein. Thanks for looking. JustinG Some other rarity ones. This one is not out of focus. It is blue and was issued as blue. Although, most blue bands are HJ Marine related, this one is not. It too is extremely rare.
    20. So sorry for the quick succession losses in your family. Condolences to you and your family. Best Regards, JustinG
