    1. Here is one i found while browsing the internet. Owner is designated on the picture. Kind regards Matt
    2. Yes thank you also for sharing...a very interesting piece of history indeed. Matt
    3. I too like Daniel on the other thread and JB Floyd thought it was the Italian Messina Earthquake medal of 1908. Kind regards Matt
    4. Oh more questions chaps! What is the last ribbon on his ribbon bar? Some foreign award? It acually looks like the Luftschutz ribbon...could that even be possible? If we could be sure the 3rd ribbon was for either the West Wall Medal, Turkish War medal or ? we could then determine at least if the last award was foreign or not. Matt
    5. I thought it was a West Wall ribbon also but then wasn't sure if KM Officers received these? Matt EDIT: Or could it be the ribbon for the Turkish War Medal? :jumping:
    6. Just wondering, what is the ribbon in his second button hole if he is already wearing the EK2 on his lapel? Don't think i have seen 2 ribbons in 2 different places before! Matt
    7. Hello Martin, This is the "Turkish Iron Crescent" award or "Turkish War Medal". Also sometimes referred to as the "Gallipoli Star". Here is a link to some information. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallipoli_Star_(Ottoman_Empire) Very nice picture. Do you know who he was? Best wishes Matt EDIT: Sorry Naxos, you have it covered! Didn't see your post!
    8. Thank you Wild Card! Would those medals be on the awards rolls? I am assuming they were awarded pre-1914. Best wishes Matt
    9. Very nice PF. What is the difference in this Bavarian ribbon (no.3 on ribbon bar, with swords) and the one i am attaching? Thanks Matt
    10. Arnim, I do agree with you to rely on the records and was in no way saying your information was inaccurate just because it doesn't "seem" to match the above photo. At best it is difficult to determine the exact combination on a ribbon bar unless the picture is crystal clear.....or in colour! Kind regards Matt
    11. He may not have mounted alll of his awards or had them all put on to his ribbon bar. Wasn't uncommon that these bars were not updated. Matt
    12. Don't think it could be that as it was red with white stripes. The 10th ribbon appears to be the one colour. Matt
    13. Hi Alexandre, I am not an expert but if these are all neck orders like i think they are then i do not think they would be on the ribbon bar. I would ask one of the Imperial experts to verify this. My best Matt
    14. My thanks to Pierce and Heiko for providing pictures and information! Ulsterman, this is very good news. I suspected this medal to be rarely awarded, but never thought it could be ID-able! Thank you for bringing this information to light. If anyone can help with the above mentioned list i would be truely indebted to them! My best to all Matt
    15. Some great pieces on this thread chaps! Here are my 2 contributions from my Hansa Collection: -Medal bar of General-Leutnant Kurt Dittmar (ID-ed coutesy of Mr. Rick Research) -Ribbon bar group belonging to a 2-time awarded lifesaver! (Prussia & Hamburg) Here is the link to the thread for those interested. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43233 Best wishes Matt
    16. Brian, I think your medal bar is most likely to a German. The 1914-18 German Honour Cross takes precedence on this bar, not to mention the German mounting style. Germans could apply for the First World War Commemorative Medals from Austria, Hungary and Bulgaria. Not everyone was fortunate enough to be bestowed an Iron Cross or its equivalent...but these commemorative medals could be requested by those who did take part in the War. A nice pair! Regards Matt
    17. Heiko, You have truely mmade my day!!! This ribbon bar is even more special than i first thought! What resources did you use to establish that this is the Hamburg Life Saving Medal? My book does not give pictures of all the ribbons in use for this period. Also any assistance in obtaining a picture of this medal for this thread would be greatly appreciated. My thanks Matt
    18. This bar also came with this 3-place ribbon bar. Perhaps they belonged to the same person?
    19. This can be found on page 46 of the above mentioned book....apologies about the glare...
    20. Gentlemen, As you may be aware by now i simpley to collect medal and ribbon bars with anything from the Hanseatic States. Today i received the centre piece of my ribbon bar collection (Gen.Lt. Dittmar's medal bar being the centre-piece of my medal bar collection... )...after a little searching through my ribbon book (Medal Ribbons & Orders of Imperial Germany & Austria; D.G.Neville) i am sure i have the combination named correctly. -Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class -Hamburg Hanseatic Cross -Prussian Life Saving Medal -Hamburg Fire Brigade Medal -Prussian Centenary 1797-1897 Medal I have NEVER seen this Hamburg Fire ribbon before anywhere....did a quick search here and found nothing from Hamburg. When i first got the bar i thought it was a Hesse Long Service ribbon, but it didn't quite look like the picture in the book or like any of the pictures i seen on the internet....but then i saw the white trimming on the edges of the ribbon... which made me look again! By any chance would anyone have a picture of this medal? I hope you like it! Best wishes Matt
    21. Linas, These usually come with a suspension ring on...has it been broken off this one or maybe there a version without? Matt
