    1. Not to sound like a know-it-all, but... You need to lower the summer-white officer caps's cockarde to the same position as the black one. Also, as the visor on the black one does not have any oak leaves on the visor, the gold braided chin-cord needs to be replaced with a normal chin-strap like the summer white's. Cool. Thanks for the info Richie. I pasted your comments here in case somebody else could learn from them. I was under the misguided impression that the "leather" chin cord was for non-coms (Petty Officers?) and the braided cord (without leaves on the visor) for junior officers. Thanks for straightening me out.
    2. My modest naval collection. Nothing special....all late models. But I like 'em. Some, if not all will remain when I cull the hat herd in the future.
    3. Effin' awesome dood!!!!!!!!! Whata ride. And what a chick magnet.....
    4. The first one awarded in early 1944, the second is harder to tell. Try Paul Schmitt's Echoes Of War for info on dates and researching.
    5. Guys, please don't get me hooked on this research thing, I'm begging you. Nice BM Doc. I love that well worn look.
    6. Is that not the Distinguished Labour Medal ribbon or is it a scanning effect?
    7. Quick update on part of the story: http://mattdowling.blogspot.com/2005/12/na...-body-lice.html
    8. A shame the link no longer works, I wanted to read that article. Shame as well that documentary is not available at Netflix. My luck's out today it seems. Found this though http://www.balticsworldwide.com/napoleon_graves.htm Off to the store to buy lottery tix!
    9. Now *that's* a collection. Very nice indeed!
    10. and the reverse. The reverse of the screwplate is pebbled
    11. Thanks for your reply Christian. You're the second person who felt it was not right. I think I'll take it back.
    12. Got this recently with a group of items. I took a flyer on it as I may be starting to get hooked on Soviet badges. Any idea what it might be? The screwback is named to a maker in Warsaw. No other markings. It's a 5 piece, including screpost and screwback. TIA (wait for the 3 images)
    13. I like the drawers, and the goodies inside them even more! Nevsky, Kutuzov, numbered ORBs, Ushakov, Nakhimov, OG1..... SWEET
    14. Super deal GB! Nice group as well.
    15. Thanks Ed for so many great pictures. It really is nice to see......other places. The first and third images are really very nice. I notice the lack of traffic on the streets (compared to south Florida in winter). Is traffic really as light as that? Mongolian ODMs are, of course, great but it's really nice to see something other than those. Having said that I happened to notice a certain part of the mural at The Zaisan Memorial. In the photoshopped image below we see some particularly intersting images. Was the artist just guilty of wishful thinking or do these models for said mural with their western-style, upgraded "racks" wander about Main Street in downtown UB? I know it's very unprofessional and ungentlemanly-like to speak of these sort of things publically but for some reason my eyes were drawn to them and I just had to ask. Apologies in advance for such wanton thoughts.
    16. Take a peek at Andrew's EXCELLENT site and this particular page: http://mondvor.narod.ru/Kolodki/FiveCornersKol.htm He's got us all beat. PS. Have you noticed the images there loading a lot faster of late? yay!!
    17. Great topic Ferdinand! I'm a BIG fan of older suspensions. I like my old medals with old ribbons and old suspensions. Does that make me "old"? Here's a few of mine that I had down from the wall....
    18. I found these numbers on a very reputable site (SMAP forum) from a poster who's long since vanished... These numbers, according to the poster, are: "All the following have been confirmed by research All confirmed..." Medal for Bravery 96695 01/02/43 112814 07/12/42 159218 22/02/43 246667 23/04/43 347049 01/09/43 745775 05/02/44 1030518 03/03/44 1577386 22/08/44 1624206 30/09/44 1697816 07/09/44 2370720 12/01/45 2452683 22/02/45 2454862 09/05/45 2602999 01/06/45 2821213 17/06/45 3220514 24/05/45 Medal for Combat Service 142728 06/02/43 333121 30/06/43 1346306 03/11/44 1354547 07/10/44 1502924 19/04/45 1614353 03/11/44 1672076 02/10/44 1897624 03/11/44 2651351 01/02/43 3114869 06/11/45 I'm not sure what the poster meant by 'confirmed by research' and they don't really mesh that well with Rick's numbers but I thought I'd throw it out there just for the heck of it.
    19. And the reverse. Just a little extra solder to make thing more difficult.
    20. My latest Udarnik. A bit of enamel damege on the front....
