Soviet Medal?
Eric Gaumann replied to usairforce's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Is this the thing the official at marriage ceremonies wears? I've seen similar attributed to that. No expert though. -
Soviet Order of Glory III Class
Eric Gaumann replied to hunyadi's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
What's the number, 386293? I'm no expert but it's got some good things going for it (if the number's right). And yes, there are many fake OG3s. Any chance of some less shakey images? Focus particularly on the obverse center medaillion. BTW, anybody notice the cavalier set on US eBay? $12k -
Soviet City Jubilee Medals
Eric Gaumann replied to a topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Verbatim from Putnikov: "These medals were established by the decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet 20/09/47(Moscow), 16/05/57(Leningrad) and 10/05/82(Kiev). They were bestowed on approxiamtely 4 million people. These medals were presented to persons who lived in these cities and who took part in their restoration and reconstruction, also those who participated in the defence of Moscow and Leningrad and in the liberation of Kiev." -
Soviet Order of the Red Star Nr. 2766686
Eric Gaumann replied to Hauptmann's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
I was watching that one on eBay. Just couldn't convince myself a busted RS was worth 20 beans. Surprised it went for almost 40. Is it just me or of late are RS going up in price a bit faster than Sovi ODMs in general? -

EK 1914 1914 EK1 screwback with oval washer
Eric Gaumann replied to Motorhead's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
I think it's the best book out there. Superb color photography. The first edition is slagged a bit because of a few fakes included as originals but I still give it (the 1st ed) 5 stars. 1st ed is now outta print but there's an updated, 2nd edition that I haven't seen. I'd imagine it's even better. -
Soviet October revolution rivets

In my opinion it's not worth spending good money on fakes or "collectors copies". Save your money, do your homework and wait for a good deal to appear. -

Paul Schmitt wrote that book, not Paul McDaniel(PMD). -
Soviet Number 1
Eric Gaumann replied to slava1stclass's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
According to Echoes OG1 #1 went to N.A. Zaletov in October of '44. What a sweet set. Not only a OG1 but a border reverse OG2. That is nearly pricelss! -

Are MZPP OPW2 any more collectable than standard mint(Krasnokamsk, Moscow, Leningrad) OPWs? I know the MZPP RS's seem to be. -

Eric Gaumann replied to Eric Gaumann's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Didn't find much on the 'net about K&Q but that's OK, I doubt I could tell one core from another. But I *did* find another image of my EK1. Just for the heck of it: -

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help muchly. When I got it the fresh scratchings on the pin worried me a lot, as well as the lack of detail on the date (1939). So 65 is from Klein & Quenzer correct? Nice well-known maker. -

Thanks Hank. My biggest concern is the "65" or whatever it was in the pin seems to have been scratched out somehow. -

Soviet Two orders of the red star
Eric Gaumann replied to Ostfront's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Couple o' real beauties there Mark. I'm a big fan of the screwpost base variations. Echoes Of War shows 113,397 being awarded 11/5/42 on the North Western Front. 152,461 on 11/6/42 on the Northern Caucasus Front (18th Army)
