Austria-Hungary HUNGARIAN WW1 FOUR KINGS MEDAL
Kev in Deva replied to Igor Ostapenko's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
I think you misunderstand, I was referring to the piece where the ribbon goes,(Ose) is very similar in the style found on Turkish Military Medals from the 1900's. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2009/post-950-126081821842.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2009/post-950-126081823386.jpg Kevin in Deva. -

Hallo Igor, I think the hanger on this medal is a Turkish piece and possibly not original to the medal, Perhaps Ricky would care to post a comment? Kevin in Deva. -

Hi Greg, great pictures, thanks for posting:jumping: If anything the pictures I have seen in newspapers tend to show even high-ranking Romanian officers wearing a modest amount of "Bling". Kevin in Deva. -

Greece - Greek Cross from about 1830
Kev in Deva replied to Komtur's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
 Beautiful Bar In the book: "GREEK MEDALS" by George Stratoudakis, ISBN: 960-91397-2-8 page 13. " Cross of the Bavarian Volunteer Corps 1833. Since the spring of 1835 the Bavarian Volunteer Army Corps started gradually to replace the regular Bavarian troops, who were in Greece since 1833. For the men of these Corps it was decided by Royal decree in 1837 to strike a Commemorative and Honourable distinction. The Medal was struck in bronze and in Iron. Meaning of the inscriptions:- Obverse:- OTHON KING OF THE HELLENES." Reverse:- TO THE BAVARIAN VOLUNTEERS." Kevin in Deva. -

Romania Romanian Uniforms

Hallo Carol I, did that book actually cover any of the uniforms in the Communist Periods? I think it only covered the 1877 - 1939 period. Kevin in Deva. -
Romania Is this Medal Bar Possible?
Kev in Deva replied to hunyadi's topic in Central & Eastern European States
My thoughts would be:- Its possibly a WW2 veterans put together, after the communist period, by that I mean, first he has the bar with the communist medals, worn in the order he received them, after the communist times ended, he added the Imperial Order with Military Virtue ribbon as a possible replacement for an award he received when fighting against the communists and forbidden during communist times. So we have a man who served in the Romanian Royal Forces and then went on to serve in the Romanian Communist Forces. As can be seen from Communist period ribbon bars the regulations with regards ribbon placement were extremely lax. Of course without documentation its hard to prove anything conclusive. As for the odd discs I have seen such dealer repairs being offered for sale here in Romania of course they cannot be considered official, but the idea being a complete medal is better than an incomplete one. Hallo aviatiadasenzatia, Thanks for your reply, The other main difference between the awards is the center piece, however they are being offered in boxes, like mine, again either because it was authorised to use up boxes, or its unofficial and the items have been put together by the sellers. In my honest opinion, medals (and some classes of orders) normally hang on a ribbon, however pin-backs can be classified as Insignia, and any medal or insignia "given" / "awarded" can be classed as an award.
