hunyadi Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Dr Simon was also a member of the Hazafias Nepfront - a political party that was allowed to exist in 1973, though they could never win elections. Every year 150 individuals were chosen for their merits and service to the Socialist state. Dr. Simon was so decorated on two separate years. Here is the medal and one of the documents.
hunyadi Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Here is the document for the Arany Janos Prize for Education given in 1984
hunyadi Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I'm going to stop here on the lot - there is more, but I will add more at a later time. A full article on the medals and the man are in the works.
hunyadi Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Run for your lives! Its the Partisans!Instituted in 1954 to individuals who became a part of the Hungarian Partisans Organisation and who had proof of actual anti-fasist activity in Hungary and abroad. I have never seen a numbered one about 5000 so it believe that no more than perhaps 4800 were ever awarded from 1954 to 1989.
hunyadi Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 And the reverse - it is my belief that the original issue piees are numbered and then additional replacemetns are not as I have seen another example that was not numbered. This one of course is number 3205
hunyadi Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 And one that has not lost nealry all its gilded finish this one is number 4567
hunyadi Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 and the reverse. The cased sets came with a miniature badge
Ed_Haynes Posted October 28, 2006 Author Posted October 28, 2006 40 mm in diameterThanks, even nicer at a visible size!

hunyadi Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 A loose translation is The Hungarian People's Republic Council of MinistersDr. Simon XXXXXXfor acknowledging fruitful and sucessful workthe April Fouth OrderEast Budapest 1987 year, April month, 4th day.(signed) the Presidnet of the Council of Ministers (signed) the Secretary of the Council of Ministers
hunyadi Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Have not updated a few interesting finds - here are two awards for Military Sports during the Rakosi era. Every year there were local and national competitions. On the left is an aluminum table medal that came in a box and would be engraved on the reverse with details of the individual and the sport. This one is celarly unissued. Its probably an early strike as the deatil on this one is sharper than the ones I normaly see.On the right is an acompanying 'Military Athletics' sport badge that would be worn above the right upper pocket. Its heavy silver plate with great enamelwork to it.
Gerd Becker Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Great group! And the Partisan badges are very pretty
hunyadi Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Here is another mundane award - but with a twist - its a Public Security Medal in Bronze for 5 years of service. However it is for Miltiary Police - rather than regular police!
hunyadi Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) OK back to sport stuff - Here is the gold and silver classes from post 1957 - 'Haditorna' diapears from the lower banner as seen in the Rakosi era badge and is replaced by KHT 'Katonai Hadi Torna' (Soldiers Combat Sport) Far left and far right (from what I have been told by another collector) are for the local military sport competions while the gold in the center is for the national - notice the wreath. hunyadi Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Why is it that the most rare are the ones to suffer....
hunyadi Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 If you cant read it its #510. This one is from 1948 the first year that they insituted the Workers Badge - this one is one of the more common that are found for Metal Workers - there were 13 variations of the center motif... this was found at a flea market in a box full of junk military insignia...its been there....
hunyadi Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Here is what one looks like in better shape...
hunyadi Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 And the reverse - its a nice thing to see that the two came from different factories - this one is maker marked, but the number is higher and has the dished out reverse
hunyadi Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Here is a lot I aquired recently to a Workers Milita member. He was in the Workers Milita for thirty years. He was given his second Workers Militai medal (red / blue ribbon) in October of 1989...the communist party was over a month later....
