Motorhead Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) This one dropped in today, not in perfect condition but still something that is worth to be collected! I simply bought it to compare the measurments of the pin to my other one. There's some damage at the top crossarm(and a little splitting of the frame) and one "fang" is broken off.....It will have to leave again, but for the moment I enjoy it!Micha Edited June 6, 2007 by Motorhead
TerryG Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Shame about the damaged hook. Still an interesting cross nevertheless.
gregM Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Nice cross. The Godet with "Fangs" is one of my favorite crosses.
GdC26 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Gents, Nice cross, my compliments. I?ve come across a similar Godet, and was wondering whether it would be appropriate for a wartime (i.e., pre november 1918) tunic I own. Are these Godet crosses with fangs wartime, or are they postwar? Many thanks for your help,Regards, Sandro
joe campbell Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 these "fanged" awards, EK and non-EK, were partof an active officer's daily wear.they would have their tailor sew the holes for theirwear into the uniform directly.good find, micha!joe

joe campbell Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 i'm not sure there was a lot of uniformwearing in post-war germany.if you have a chance to visit any of numerousmilitaria sited with uniforms, you will see holesand sewn in medal bar holders on various tunics.to the extent that wearing of awards and decorationswas common, you will also see this in pre-1914uniforms. the same holds for the 1933-1945 era.joe

I am familiar with the medal loops you refer to, and in fact, own a bunch of fairly high end tunics myself: you can check them out athttp://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20065 if you wish. From the little I know of EK?s 1914, I?m pretty sure the Godet with fangs is private purchase, not issue. What I am trying to establish is whether that type of cross was wartime manufactured or not, so that I may deterimne whether it would be suitable for one of the tunics I own. If you or anyone else can help me answer this rather specific question, that would be much appreciated. Regards, Sandro
joe campbell Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 godet with fangs is ABSOLUTELY private purchase, and could be expected to be seen on a wartimetunic.joeBTW, nice tunics!!

Beau Newman Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 This showed up yesterday. It was a bit pricey but, I don't know when I'll ever find a nicer one.
Eric Stahlhut Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) i saw that one when it was listed, but refrained from buying it as i wasn't satisfied with the non-matching length of the hooks and the 'fill' between the frames. it appeared as though it had been cleaned at some point with the wrong type of silver polish, which can sometimes cause the frames to separate even further. . glad to see that someone from the forum picked it up. enjoy! gregM Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Very nice cross. It may not be a perfect example but it is still a maker marked Godet with Fangs. A very collectable and desirable cross. Congrats.

gregM Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I'm right there with you Eric. I have not bought a new cross yet this year.
Graf Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hi, I just got this nice EK1 by GODET with Fangs The pictures can not describe the quality of the EK1 In my opinion it is as good as any KMST marked EK1 Best Graf
Graf Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Hi GregM, Thank you for the comment. Yes it is a very nice cross and it is much more affordable the his " 1870 Brother" with hooks eMedals is selling one at the moment with one hook missing for a small fortune I had already one EK1 with hooks(marked 800 on the pin), although is very nice, the Godet made EK1 was on top of my Wish List Best Graf
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Hi, I just got this nice EK1 by GODET with Fangs For some reason the Fangs in the 3rd Pic look pretty dangerous ;-) Very nice piece indeed!
