    Hi,

This ribbon bar is a nice Godet ribbon bar. I'm not a Third Reich specialist (about the eagles and the spange). Seems to be ok but we need the opinion of Rick. The X on the Bavarian ribbon seems to be in bronze, exact or not. It should be in silver.

    Regards

Thanks, I liked the bar but am suspicious of the devices, especially the eagles.

I didn't think these look cast but I'll study them closer.

Looks OK to me. Those are Schickle-made eagles (see Ribbon Bar Article Devices Closeups Gallery in "Eagle" section) and I've got a Godet made bar with silver ones that I've posted recently in another thread:

Looks minty fresh but I don't think new just waaaaaaaay up close and shiny from the dazzlingly clear camera work. The only real oddity I see is the color of the swords on the Bavarian MMO ribbon, which should be silver.

That's a classic Godet metal backing. The precedence is pre-1938, and with the nice sturdy Godet catch makes me think this was a circa 1936 bar that the wearer added his EK2 Spange 2 CAREFULLY, by having the backing removed and replaced rather than just jammed through the gray material.

Loose stitching seems characteristic of these late Godet bars:

I was hoping to get this one...

    Well,

So far we have 2 for original and 1 for repro. Does anyone else want to offer an opinion?

    Hello CCJ:

I hate to cause more confusion, but I vote that this is probably a counterfeit piece. My advice (not that you asked) would be to stay away from it and move on to another piece.

    Best of luck!

How about I vote Original Godet-made But Exceptionally Minty Fresh And Shockingly Well Photographed Up Close ... again? :cheeky:

remember how TINY these devices are. Up close enough, anything that small looks icky. :catjava:

But I doubt the combination will prove TRACEABLE.

    Well,

I'm going to get it and look at it in person. Then, I'll post more images and if at that point it's deemed bad I'll send it back.

I like it, too. I don't think that the fakers are already so ahead and are faking Godet ribbon or medal bars, because you have to find the right parts in order to do it. Sometimes these parts are available on the market. Hopefully it didn't happen, yet!

    Ciao,

The ribbon bar arrived today and it's a beauty...

The Bavarian MMO swords are silver. It's hard to see in the picture but when you hold it they look silver and you can see some of the shiny silver finish in the cracks and side of the device.

I'll take some images this week. The Spange is very detailed and small. It's purdy :speechless:

Rick L, you were correct. The camera work was part of the problem. The ribbons look correct and show some age and the devices look nicely detailed. The bar is slightly bent but does not detract.

Bent? You mean curved to fit snugly on the wearer's chest?

Not really, just sent and no longer straight. :(
