Wilhelm Mejo, born 1896 in Kray, died in a crash in 1929. He was in Kagohl/Bogohl 4. Not in our lists so far.

    First name: Lt Mathias Geenen

    Geldern'sche Zeitung, 1.3.1918

According to VL, born 13.4.1887 in Weeze.

New first name, a very late one, but his last name was in the list already: Olt Hubert Klümpen from Kevelaer

New first name (last name a bit hard to read): Lt dR August Nocke from Hochlarmark. Acc. to VL born 19.10.XX in Eickel.

This must be an error: Offz-Stellv. Robert Heibert certainly had the Golden MMC, but he cannot have had an HHOX.

No first name, but one of the Hauptmann Pieper must be from a Westphalian IR:

The Hauptmann a.D. Lange is almost certainly Wilhelm Gotthold Benjamin

*31.8.1881 in Danzig, verwundet 31.5.1918 bei Nampcel, †1.6.1918 in Blérancourt
    1914-16 Fhr. 11./IR 27, 1916-18 Kdr. II./IR 27

    LangeWilhelmIR27.jpg.f8f2ae5dab506ae998ee22f6be06dfae.jpg

Some supplemental information on some of the officers in webr55's most recent posts:

    Berghaus, Bruno
    *4.9.1887 in Königssteele, Hattingen, †14.3.1962 in Bremen; Dipl.-Ing., 1926 Dr.-Ing. (TH Hannover).
Leutnant d.R., I. Landwehr-Feldartillerie-Abteilung des X. Armeekorps, Landwehr-Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 258. The I. and II. Ldw.Felda.Abtn. X.AK became LFAR 258 in 1916. These units were part of the 2. Marine-Division, so Berghaus appears in two Reichsmarine casualty lists.

Wilhelm Mejo is still listed as a Vizefeldwebel in a 26.10.1918 Verlustliste, so his promotion to officer and award of the HOH3X must have been very late in the war.

Hubert Klümpen is listed as an Oberleutnant a.D. in the 1934 FußAR 8 membership list and a Hauptmann d.R. in the 1939 edition. He was a Kaufmann (Ledergroßhandlung) in Köln and later Frankfurt am Main.

    Klems, Heinrich
*14.8.1881 in Waltrop, Recklinghausen, †xx.xx.1952 (bestattet in Essen-Rüttenscheid)
    Rechtsanwalt in Essen

    Coers, Ernst Friedrich Walter
    *16.10.1885 in Lünen

    Bunn, Helmuth Friedrich Wilhelm
    *3.8.1900 in Charlottenburg
    †1.12.1965 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf
I also cannot find anything about him in any military sources.

    Ebert, Joseph
    *17.3.1892 in Hünfeld, Cassel

About Lt dR Delbrück from IR 396: The name is relatively rare, it looks like they all belong to one influential Prussian family (most famous of course, the later Nobel Prize winner Max).

Going by VL, there are a number of dR officers Delbrück here, but only two of them would fit, given the rank, branch and the time of award:

    1) Hermann Hugo Heinrich Delbrück, born 5.8.1893 in Berlin. Kaufmann, "Großvertreter für Pflanzenschutzmittel" 1940 in Rostock. Died 7.8.1980 in Wolfenbüttel (acc. to myheritage).

    2) Wolfgang Gerhard Felix Delbrück, born 1.6.1893 in Halle/S. 1915 in RIR 207. Bankdirektor in Düren, back in WW2 as Major dR. Died 25.12.1984 in Düren (acc. to myheritage).

Wolfgang was the IIb of Heeresgruppe Nord in 1944. His RDA as Maj.d.R. was 1.5.42.

That looks very interesting! We have an Olt dR Arthur Ungewitter (born 1895) so far, but no Max. Can you read the HHOX award date?

Ungewitter was promoted Lw Oberst in 1942/43, but the Luftwaffe sources that I have do not mention his HHOX.

Besides the HOH3X, Otto Frommann from RFAR 29 received the EH3bX and the BZ3bX. He lived in Coburg and served in a Baden regiment, so he's a good example of the different ways one could receive a state award.

His BZ3bX (13.2.15) was erroneously listed as Fromann with one "m" in the Baden orders list.

This might be a new one, Matthias Timmermann. From 'Echo der Gegenwart' 02/Jan/1919

Matthias Josef Timmermann was born on 20.7.1887 in either Kettenis or Hauset, hamlets in the Eupen region (now in Belgium). He was "leicht verwundet" in 1915 and "schwer verwundet" in 1916, both with IR 25, and "schwer verwundet" in 1918 with IR 84. He was a Volksschullehrer in Stolberg.

According to his gravestone in Aachen, Wimmar Hennes lived from 1892 to 1981. An IR 25 casualty list gives his birthplace as Cöln-Kalk. The Aachen address books give his occupation as Handelsvertreter. The gravestone and all the address books give the spelling as Wimmar; only the casualty list has Wimmer.

Another late-war award which I do not believe made it into the Staatsanzeiger or Militär-Wochenblatt: Hauptmann, later Generalmajor, Heinrich-Otto v. Nordheim. Nordheim was from FAR 9 and had been in the field with that regiment and with RFAR 65, but when he received the HOH3X, he was a Hauptmann and Batterie-Führer in FAR 61. This also accounts for the HT, since FAR 61 was Großherzoglich Hessisch.

    22.12.1914 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
22.08.1916 Ghzgl. Hessisches Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen "Für Tapferkeit"
    27.01.1917 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
    09.08.1918 Verwundetenabzeichen in schwarz
13.10.1918 Kgl. Preußischer Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Ritterkreuz mit Schwertern
    18.01.1935 Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
02.10.1936 Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 3. Klasse
01.10.1939 1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuze 2. Klasse
25.11.1939 1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuze 1. Klasse
    16.12.1942 Krimschild

Since he received the Krimschild, there's a chance he also received a Romanian decoration, but non-German decorations are not typically listed in WW2 Personalakten/Beurteilungen and I have not come across his name yet in Romania's Monitorul Oficial.

And we get a picture and signature to boot.

This will probably be the most promising focus for the last meters of our project to find missing HHOX awardees: career officers who got the HHOX in October or November 1918, not listed in Staatsanzeiger or MWB, and probably, at least in a number of cases, not even mentioned in newspapers, for various reasons. Some newspapers just stopped reporting awards, for example.

And we have to be clear: the list will never be fully complete, some just will not be found. The project has to be finalized at some point, though.
