By the way, I bought mine from an ebay seller called "Ba-re" in Berlin. Last time I shall do that.

Joe, I think the word you might be looking for is 'crotchety.' No cavalryman worth his oats would have a face that looked anything other than it was made of old saddle leather. wink.gifbeer.gif

I have got more treasure, please find some of them. The first one, this officer has got an impressive ribbon bar, a beautiful neck order and the rare honour cross with X of the order of the Wurttemberg Crown.

My favorite photo was found my father while getting his hair cut in a barber shop in the '60's. He was reading Life Magazine's special on the Boxer Rebellion and immediately recognized Hpt. v. Etzel. You didn't really think a 'favorite' photo wouldn't be my family did you?

Why does the EK1 in the photo look 'unnatural'???

I think it has been painted on the photo. May be it is an old photo and at the time he didn't receive it. After receiving it he want to show the new medal and he has just painted it on the photo. That's my opinion.

Christophe posted a photo of General d'Elsa in the field. Here's one of him all dressed up!

Based on the observartion of a sharp eyed associate, Oberst Bonsack's medal bar seems to indicate that the EK2 has been sewn on backwards!

    Gentlemen,

We see this is done from time to time in these old photos. I have a picture of Hauptmann Theodor Bloch von Blottnitz, ca. 1868, with his PLM obviously but very artistically added.
