Ulsterman Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) By the way, I bought mine from an ebay seller called "Ba-re" in Berlin. Last time I shall do that. Edited September 19, 2005 by Ulsterman
Bob Hunter Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Joe, I think the word you might be looking for is 'crotchety.' No cavalryman worth his oats would have a face that looked anything other than it was made of old saddle leather.
Deruelle Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 Hi, I have posted it in an old thread but I can't resist to post it again. I like this photo Christophe
VtwinVince Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Great photo of Mackensen, the "Last of the Prussians". Love that Black Eagle.
Deruelle Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 I have got more treasure, please find some of them. The first one, this officer has got an impressive ribbon bar, a beautiful neck order and the rare honour cross with X of the order of the Wurttemberg Crown.Christophe
Deruelle Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 A Saxon officer with SH2 (oups ! military order of the Saint Henry, commander cross of 2nd class).
Stogieman Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Sigh.......... so many things that were once mine......
Deruelle Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 Thanks for the photo Rick Christophe
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 My favorite photo was found my father while getting his hair cut in a barber shop in the '60's. He was reading Life Magazine's special on the Boxer Rebellion and immediately recognized Hpt. v. Etzel. You didn't really think a 'favorite' photo wouldn't be my family did you?
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Closeup of the personalities.
Deruelle Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 Interresting photo Brian, very nice pre-war photo. Have you post the photo of General von Etzel with PlM please ?Christophe
Bob Hunter Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 (edited) This is the one that got me started on Imperial photos. I suspect the event was cleverly manipulated by the cunning Dos Rickies but in any event this is Oberst Alfred Bonsack whom many of you have already met. through the efforts of that evil pair... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1451 Edited September 25, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Deruelle Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Hello everybody, Please find my new treasure. Oberst Otto Rupprecht. Not the impressive medal bar.RegardsChristophe
Deruelle Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 A closeup of the medal bar Christophe
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Why does the EK1 in the photo look 'unnatural'???
Deruelle Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 I think it has been painted on the photo. May be it is an old photo and at the time he didn't receive it. After receiving it he want to show the new medal and he has just painted it on the photo. That's my opinion.Christophe
Bob Hunter Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Still, an impressive chest full of medals, Christophe. Congratulations on adding it to your collection!
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Makes the photo a little more interesting. Great photo.
Mike Dwyer Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 (edited) Christophe posted a photo of General d'Elsa in the field. Here's one of him all dressed up![attachmentid=11889] Edited September 26, 2005 by Mike Dwyer
Mike Dwyer Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Another one of my favorite postcards! Bavarian General Ludwig Freiherr von Gebsattel.[attachmentid=11892]
Bob Hunter Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 (edited) Based on the observartion of a sharp eyed associate, Oberst Bonsack's medal bar seems to indicate that the EK2 has been sewn on backwards! Edited September 29, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Wild Card Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Why does the EK1 in the photo look 'unnatural'???Gentlemen,We see this is done from time to time in these old photos. I have a picture of Hauptmann Theodor Bloch von Blottnitz, ca. 1868, with his PLM obviously but very artistically added.Regards,Wild Card
Mike Dunn Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Well, maybe not my best Imperial photo--none of the fancy enamel or glitter, but one of my favorite of a proud 1870 veteran.. Mike
