avsaribar Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 Nice, very, very nice. The Austrian 81mm piece-was that a senior officer/government officials award?Do you have any attributed pieces? What is the campaign bar? Also, top left star...is that a wartime Ottoman issued piece?Dear Ulsterman , Thank you. As there is not to much information about the 81 mm Oversized Stars , but what we know is ; they were only used by the high degree officers who carried flags in the war. We call them "Sancaktar" , very , very low quantity made. The campaign bar is " 1915 Gallipoli War Badge" , It is written in Ottoman Language "Canakkale".Yeah , you are right the one on the top left is Ottoman Issued piece.Regards,Avsar IbarPS: Sorry for my poor English but I dont understand exactly what you mean by ;"Do you have any attributed pieces?"
Ulsterman Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Attributed" means medals you KNOW were THE awards given to a specific person on a specific date: e.g. "Star awarded to Sergeant Iskar on August 12, 1917."

sambolini Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Hi,Fantastic collection,Turkish Orders are my favorite after Imperial German.Kind regards,Sam K.P.S. Do you have any medal bars you could post photos of? Edited March 21, 2008 by sambolini
Guest Rick Research Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 The Great Mystery--for us-- is WHO "B.B. & Co." was-- and WHERE they made those stars.I have always thought since 90 percent of the German recipients of the War Medal got a B.B. & Co star and yet the pin is like nothing German, it must have been a company in Constantinople making these during the war. Many of us have been hunting for years to find some sort of advertisement for them during the war, or to find a CLEAR photograph taken during the war with one.So many of the German-made stars are from the prosperous 1920s or uniform-crazy 1930s that it is impossible to guess who made different types. The only German-made variety we can identify comes from the January 1939 Steinhauer & L?ck catalog. This particular star was awarded by a Turkish Lieutenant Colonel to a German hospital orderly in Nablus in 1917. It is only alloy metal, but excellent dark red enamel. I think it might be an Arabic mark on the cylinder holding the pin, but it is illegible:Have you ever seen this type as Turkish-made?

Ulsterman Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) ...and quite a web site it is too!I am impressed. May we have a quick look at the Iron cross, Hindenburg cross, Sanyai medal with bar trio ?Do you know who had that bar (Kod: 18) ?It is very interesting. It appears to be a Turkish made bar, but the Hindenburg cross is most unusual.Do you know my cyberfriend Erureten Metin? Edited March 21, 2008 by Ulsterman
avsaribar Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Dear Ulsterman , Unfortunately , I can not to read all , only some scripts.Yes I have a few other Gallipoli Stars with own documents , I will post their pictures tomorrow. ( Commander in Chief Of Ottoman Empire Enver Pasha Signed)Dear Sambolini , Thanks for your nice words , I have some Ottoman GermanBars , I will post their pictures too , Till today I sold many ...I wish I could keep their pictures...And Dear Rick , Many Years we are also can not prove that BB.CO is in Germany. But I bealive it BB.CO is a German Company also locatedin Germany , if you ask me why , What I can say is , As we know War medal created in 1915 and Mustafa KemalAtaturk makes the Alphabet reform at The 1 November 1928Till 1928 , all the medals , orders and badges which MADE in Turkey has the Ottoman script on them. (I mean if they have any...) (For example , there are many examples of the Medjidie Orderswhich doesnt have any kind of Mint Mark but even has a smallstet mark on their reverse.)Anyway what I observed and bealive is , only the Ottoman Orders and medals which made in foreign countries such as Halley and La Foyalle in Paris , has the Latin Scripts on them.BB.CO is also made in Germany , many people says in Berlin...It could be Private Company which was just doing for our GovermentWar Medals .The Star which you post the pictures is also Foreign made one , that is on it is definetely NOT an Arabic mark.1915 and those years we were in a very hard conditions , I can say you that the only Turkish made Stars are theones which was plain lacquared ones.Sincere Regards,Avsar Ibar Edited March 21, 2008 by avsaribar
