Stogieman
Fabulous pre-1915 style trapezoid ribbon bar to an Afrika K?mpfer who won the Prussian Order of The crown, 4. Klasse mit Schwertern and saw an awful lot of action.....

I just make Really Great Scans with my Amazing Epson 2400 "No Home Should Be Without One." ?The FULLSIZE KO4X device (and the tiny ribbon bar ones are unusual enough) is actually TWO pieces. Ooooo. Stogieman
It's really rather irritating actually......... I have no room for multiple machines so I am stuck buying HP "All in One" that is brand new and still does not take as nice a picture as his Epsonness....... Guest Rick Research
L@@K------->K?RAS-BERGE<-------L@@KMan, I do terrific work, even when dragged out of my sick room and made to slave over my fantastic Epson 2400 (everyone should have one, have I ever mentioned that?) when my gummy eyelids can scarcely open, concussive bronchitis taking Rocky-style advantage of all that spare space inside my skull.... Stogieman
Because inquiring minds want to know..............The back is interesting, your typical, wide-open ribbon and stitching:
Stogieman
Note the massive prongs on the swords. At somepoint, someone stitched (at the corners) some red wool backing material which is simply there....... the corner stitches are gone and the only thing that keeps it on are the pin and the "cut" of the backing as it encompasses the pin, hinge and catch!! Bob Hunter
I wonder...? How is it the crown and swords device goes through the mounting and is bent over on the reverse of the mount while the clasps appear to be attached through the ribbon and bent over on the obverse of the mounting bar? How is it the crown and swords device goes through the mounting and is bent over on the reverse of the mount while the clasps appear to be attached through the ribbon and bent over on the obverse of the mounting bar?Yep, swords and other devices are mostly (if not allways) attached on the medalbar itself, whereas clasps are mostly (if not allways) were mounted on the ribbon.Gerd
saschaw
Or, do you mean closer??Hmmm ... Unfortunally, mine is only for 1866 war against Austria, not Southwestafrikan ...
medalnet
Sorry to say, but why would a KO4 device have a crown? I would think this is a RAO 4 Crown and Swords.
saschaw
Sorry to say, but why would a KO4 device have a crown? I would think this is a RAO 4 Crown and Swords.Well, it is a CROWN-order, so why shouldn't it have a crown? A red eagle order with crown and swords, and notghing else, for SWA? Possible? Common? I've also seen a biiiig ribbon bar with two Prussian "war ribbons" with crown and swords, a larger and a smaller crown, one, the larger, for Hohenzollern House order, the second one, with the minor crown, for the crown order 4th class ... And BTW, shouldn't be a REO's crown look much different? Silver, and red enemeled?PS: My device cannot be for a REO 4th class with crown and swords, as the bar is pre1897 and this order probably for 1866 - or 1870/71? as I know, in this war such awards weren't given, and the REO's crown did not yet exist!
