Anyone have any Bavarian Chevauleger items? Or even items detailing their regimental history? I was able to get a full uniform from a friend, and ever since I have been fascinated by this group! Lets see your items

    I'll start off

Here is my Bavarian display (with a Hussar tunic thrown in for fun). The 'Haube on the right in for EM and is named, tbe Officer's on the left came without name but with storage case and cover. The tunic is for the 1st Chevauleger Rgt, and all came from the same individual.

More photos to follow (when the camera recharges)

    Chris,

Nice items. Actually, I don't think you see a lot of Chevauleger items out there. It seems odd, because Bavarian pre-war tunics are fairly common. With as many regiments of Chevauleger as there were, one would think that more items would surface. Personally, I have been looking for M15 straps from any one of these regiments for over 40 years and I have never seen even one!

I think I may have a wartime photo or two of Chevauleger, but that is about it. I hope you get some other posts. I know there are collectors on this forum that have tunics.

Paul that is an awesome set! Was it all named to the original owner? I cant tell from my screen, but is that the dark red piping or the peach?

Chip, I was wondering how rare the Chevauleger items were. I have seen Bavarian helms to Cav units, but these I think can be either Chevauleger or Riter units unless otherwise marked.

Aside from Helms, I agree, I have only seen one tunic for sale (white piped) and that was after Tony from Kaiser's Bunker got it. It is interesting you don't see more, due to the fact you seem to see a lot of uniforms, 100% good, from more rare units (like the Brunswick Hussars), I have seen three black Hussar tunics for sale this year, and no Chevauleger tunics. I was hoping I just was not looking hard enough :)

I'm still impressed with the beauty of the Chevau-L?gers uniforms. I have seen only one in my life. Very nice collection you have.

Dave that is OUTSTANDING!! I never expected a Field Gray tunic, absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing it. Now at that point, what were the Chevauleger units used for? Straight infantry or possibly more of a light scout role? Had they completely dropped the horses by 1915?

    Gentlemen,

to begin with, sorry for my bad english!

It´s a pleasure to find somebody interested in the Chevaulegers Regiments of the kingdom of Bayern (Bavaria). My german grandfather served as a leutnant in one of them during WW1 (the Kgl. Bayer. 2. Chevaulegers-Regt. Taxis) as you can see (if I´m capable enough to do it) in the avatar´s picture.

After searching everywhere I found a person in Germany who helped me to find a lot of information about him:

    “Hallo Herr Ceno,

Mai 1918)

    10. Juni 1918 versetzt zum Ersatz-Depot

    16. September befördert zum Leutnant

    10. Okt. Versetzt zur 2. Eskadron

    21. Mai 1919 Abschied unter Überführung zu den Reseve-Offizieren Leutnant a.D.

    Kriegsauszeichnungen:

    Bay. Militär-Verdienstorden 4. Klasse

    Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse

    Verwundeten Abzeichen”

I want to give away to my mother a portrait of his father (my grandfather) wearing a leutnant´s Chevauleger uniform of 1918. In the photo he wears the Chevauleger´s Waffenrock but I´m not sure about the color. Please, have a look at this page,,, do you think it is correct?

I need a lot of information to begin …

I also found in the Web:

    http://www.kaisersbunker.com/gtp/New/chev0.htm

    Kgl. Bayer. 2. Chevaulegers-Regt. Taxis

    (Regensburg) III Bayerisches Armee Korps

    Collar/Cuffs/Straps : Wine Red

    Buttons : Silver

Bayern Wappen : Silver Bayern Wappen (in the Pickelhaube, I think...)

Did they wear in 1918 the Pickelhaube?

    What about the sable?

    Any information will be welcomed.

Bavarian Chevaulegers (on horses) escorting prisoners 1915

    Hi Heinz,

a good man to have in the familly tree!

In 1918 they were wearing steel helmets like the rest of the army.

    Best

    Chris

And I believe the 2nd was a silver wrappen with silver buttons. The 1st Rgt was in Gold.

That is a great photo of the Chevauleger escorting the prisoners. I am surprised he still holds a lance, as I would have thought by 1915 those would have been completely dropped. Is that photo taken in Russia? Those look like French Prisoners-- but I am not sure.
