Stogieman Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Well Ed, now you have to put your "salesman" skills to work. Point out to those in Ulanbaatar that one can ask whatever one wants... that doesn't mean it will sell. Also, things have an interesting way of vanishing from this website only to re-appear months later for sale again....
Ed_Haynes Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Well Ed, now you have to put your "salesman" skills to work. Point out to those in Ulanbaatar that one can ask whatever one wants... that doesn't mean it will sell. Also, things have an interesting way of vanishing from this website only to re-appear months later for sale again....True, true. Most of the UB dealers have multiple Sukhbaatars in stock, but are sitting on them, not interested in selling, until prices go up even MORE. Shall be able to report in more detail this June.
fjcp Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Serial# 1934 with doc. for sale right now on a Russian forum.... $4400 buy it now I believe but he won't ship internationally.... There are ways around this I'm sure....I"ll post pictures in a bit. JC
Bob Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 These are beautiful - just the first thought on my mind everytime I see one.The reverse indicates this one had a rough life though. On the other hand, great to see a document for such a late one - puts a line in the sand with regard to officially awarded ones.
Ed_Haynes Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 My thoughts exactly, Bob. And this documented specimen has been noted. Battushig 2nd edition will be trying to do something systematic with numbers and dates, but by then the official regsiters should be available anyway. They are still being awarded, so where lies the line . . . ???(Though this may be changing.)
Bob Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 And how long is that order been listed? I personally don't take this seller and his price seriosly. Why don't I list a SB for say $8,000 and see if anyone bites ?The item's no longer listed on eBay so I thought, what the hell - send him an email and ask what's up.He's now quoting 5K USD as a price and - to quote him - he's in "no hurry to sell".Two things can happen... either we're in an SB bubble and eventually the local dealers will start selling off to get their investment back and prices will crash... or, this is a perpetual bull market for SB's. I suspect the latter, but feel free to offer me any screw back SB's for sale if you disagree

Stogieman Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Kind of scary to watch these prices climb and climb.... when will this market implode? I stepped in & out of Mongolian just as I watched the prices explode. It was very discouraging as a collector with limited resources. I thought I had found something "doable".... the illusion didn't last very long.
Bob Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Kind of scary to watch these prices climb and climb.... when will this market implode?I asked myself that same question when SB's got over 1.500 USD, 2.000 USD, etc. ... and now I regret that of course with current prices Think we have a bit of an OPEC-like issue here... the tap can be turned on/off at will and dealers (especially at source in UB) are aware that just sitting on their inventory will get them a better return than any other investment will. Take the one screwback currently for sale... it was on eBay for 3.200 not so long ago and probably at that price the dealer would have made a nice margin... now he's saying 5.000 is my price, take it or leave it... because he knows, 2-4-6 months from now that will in fact be the going price and SB's with numbers around 200 are not easy to find.Imagine what'll happen if/when research becomes available... let alone if research would turn out to be more than just a name and a date! It could cause substantial widening of the Mongolia collecting base and supply/demand will have it's effect even more...

Ed_Haynes Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 One is up for auction (number unreported ) in the upcoming 22 November 2008 San Giorgio auction. As the description is only in Italian (unlike most of their items), I cannot tell whether it is screwback or pinback. Their estimate is EUR 1300-1800 (around $1666-2308), which is clearly dangerous delusional. We shall see.
