David Gregory Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 This was a pretty hohum issue cross until it (hopefully) became a lifesaving medal my favorite EKIVery nice cross, Tom.It certainly ranks among the more interesting anonymous items that would tell a good story if they could speak.
Glenn R Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 with NO disrespect to those whocollect third reich, WHERE do yousee such variety in production?it was a jewellers heyday!joeI know what you mean Joe. It took me one hands-on examination of a silver 1914 EK to forever turn me into an Imperialoid.
gregM Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 This is probably the nicest Imp. EK1 that I have. A unmarked Godet.[attachmentid=20935]
gregM Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I love the varity of EKs out there. Here are some of mine.[attachmentid=20936]
Glenn R Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I Knew this would draw you out Greg! Nice display, love that Godet!
joe campbell Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 hey GREG!!!!i'll trade you what's behind door #2 for the contents of post #33 all of those could stand individual obverse/reverse shots.NICE PIECES!!joe
Tom Y Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 (edited) Tom,What happened to this cross ? Schrapnell traces ? Or a dog ? An interesting story, I'm sure!!!Cheers.Ch.I wish I knew the story I got it several years ago on eBay. The two oval marks appear to have been made by the driving band of an artillery shell. We can only hope he lived. Edited December 31, 2005 by Tom Y
Daniel Murphy Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 (edited) Here is the majority of mine. All of the ones showing the front are standard or convex pinbacks. The one with the brass back is a battle damaged one that was trench art repaired and converted to screwback. There are 2-3 more around somewhere including a regular screwback, plus the Hansen coming in the mail from Canada. I know this is supposed to be about one special cross, but greg got me started.Dan Murphy Edited January 2, 2006 by Daniel Murphy
gregM Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Dan,You have a nice group of EKs.Here is another variation. It's not very pretty but it has lots of character.[attachmentid=21236]
joe campbell Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 greg-necessity is the mother of invention, and for as "jerry-rigged" a repair asthis one has undergone, i'll bet itlooked great on a tunic or jacket!got a shot of the obverse?joe
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Some more stuff too nice to forget.....
