This morning I received the photo of Otto Martin and after looking carefully the photo I saw this. Can someone help me about this item please ?

Couldn't that be a "Garde Stern" on the pommel cap of the good general's M-89 IOD? Unusual place (I'm used to seeing them on the sword's hilt), but then "es gibt nichts das es nicht gegeben hat".

it's an aeronautical sports badge. ring der nationalen kraftfahrt und luftfahrtbewegung (rkl)...one of those quasi-military sports organizations from the 20-30s

Very nice! It's not everyday you see a CoL 1 carrier from 1918. especially not a German.

I would say that it is a "Garde-Tag" badge. Machinewoven silk in an oval metall frame.

Slightly unusaul place to wear it, but...
