Alex K Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Hi all, I'd like to show a few pick-ups, nothing spectacular, but nice and simple (To me) Kaiser I Centenary medal, full size, difficult to show but heavily gilt, a Prinzen, a miniature and what I assume to be a ribbon device secondly Shaumburg-lippe military service cross and a Friedlander EKII regards Alex K
1812 Overture Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Orange medalI think he is cheap, has enough weight, and has a high historical significance. I also like it very much.
Alex K Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 Hi, thanks for the comments, which one is the "Orange" one? weights are Wilhelm I full size 34g, no ribbon Wilhelm I Prinzen with ribbon 23g Shaumburg 10g regards
1812 Overture Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 No, no, you misunderstood what I meant. This medal and his ribbon are orange, so call him an orange medal.

Hi, the ribbon is yellow, so she is called ,, Zitronenorden " https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zentenarmedaille Kind regards Andreas
VtwinVince Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I'm confused, isn't the usual reduction of the Centenary 30 mm?

Don't know to be fair, perhaps others may know, it certainly looks the part and was advertised as a Prinzen, maybe they came in a "Reduced size" regards Edited March 2, 2019 by Alex K
VtwinVince Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I just checked both of mine, and they're 30 mm, never seen one in your size.
Alex K Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 Apparently (From another forum) they were used primarily on medal bars as the reduced size fitted in with the size of other medals better, they were private purchase items regards
Utgardloki Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 That makes sense, the Centenary often looks unproportional on medal bars.
VtwinVince Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 True, but I've never seen anything other than the 30 mm example mounted on bars.
Alex K Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 Just a quick update about recent additions, my mistaken belief that I'd bought a "Prinzen" version, when in fact it was a reduced size for medal bar wear, finally got myself a true "Prinzen" so I think I've got all known sizes (I hope) measure 29.5mm attached regards
VtwinVince Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Excellent, I'm still looking for the medium size one.
Alex K Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 Hi, thanks, it's the only one I've ever seen, must be fairly uncommon, good luck in your quest. Regards

I consider every centenary medal that is significant smaller than the award type a "Reduktion", avoiding the confusing term "Prinzengröße". Please keep in mind those were available for buy to everyone who felt the medal was too big for his medal bar... I think by now, I had at least two of that less usual "medium size".
Eric Stahlhut Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 i did not realize that these medals came in such a wide array of sizes. very interesting!

Yes I fully accept that they were in not official and were available for those who felt the 40mm version was the "official" size, and being too large, that being so, the smaller versions were available at the time so are in my opinion a valid addition to the collector, regards
