Utgardloki Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I don't know if this was already discussed here, but were there any veterans who had the 1870 ek and the 1939 one?
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I would bet my kids no. I suppose there is a tiiiiiiny chance someone with an 1870 EK also had a KVM or KVK2 (Probably without swords)
Utgardloki Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 They should have given one to Mackensen... just to have one EK Triple...
toot Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 saxcob, thanks for the history lesson. his funeral pillow had a great many awards on it.
saxcob Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 No doubt about that. However, do not expect an iron cross 1939 to be among those ;-)

Closest I have in my collection is a medal bar to a veteran of 1870 (no EK winner, though) who got a "Hindenburg cross" without swords in 1934/35 and had his awards newly mounted, in his mid-80s...
ixhs Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) I have a 66 veteran, which earned his IC non combatant in 1914. Thats my oldest guy. He also got the RAO 4 with "50". I know a collector who has a bar with 1848/1864/1866/1870 medal, IC 1870 & China campaign and SWA (both for non combatants) Unfortunately he won`t sell it one of my favourite bars for non combatants: A high decorated jewish guy with 3 (!) non combatant awards: http://objekte.jmberlin.de/object/jmb-obj-516608;jsessionid=EA323D9B0A00F077B7E32D9F9A2AFB77 Edited August 12, 2019 by ixhs

ixhs Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) Grandpa got his war aid cross for fighting on the homeland front. I like those "reactivation" guys. Edited August 12, 2019 by ixhs
Ulsterman Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 That is a very cool bar. There is a picture somewhere hereabouts of an elderly optometrist in Russia (1916?) wearing his EK2 non com in his button hole in the field who also won both the PWMK and the BMVOx4 in 1914-15.
