922F Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 ORDRES et MEDAILLES des PAYS D'AFRIQUE ? l'?poque POST-COLONIALE de 1960 ? nos jours by Nicolas de ROFFIGNACA, a French language book published about 5 years ago and sometimes available via French eBay, provides the widest coverage on post-1960 African decorations. It is based on materials from some orders chancelleries as well as information lifted with and WITHOUT attribution from various journals and websites. The "Medal Collector" and JOMSA as well as other society publications, notably Sabretache and the Swiss and Belgian groups' work, contain a wealth of information.
SAMedals Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 You may have this one already?Silver Star of Kenya
heusy68 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Any Mozambique medals?Mozambique awards were "never" seen offered to collector, but last yera I purchased a serie of stamp with picture of them.they are small picture, there is no ribbon, but it's better than nothing. On first picture it's the 2 President from Mozambique & Portugal which exchange Order. You can see on Portuguese President the very small badge on collar. It's Mozambique Order of Amizade & Pace ( Order of Friendship & Peace ).On 2 nd picture it's the stamp I got from a portuguese philatelist.
heusy68 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Any Mozambique medals? Here is the Order of Eduardo Mondlane (he is a Hero of Mozambique Independence Struggle). This Order is at least a 3 class Order.Maria de Lurdes Mutola who won a Medal at Olympic Games in 2004 at Athens was awarded the 1st Class of Eduardo Mondlane when she returned home. Also Mario Coluna from the Benfica Lisbon football (soccer) team was awarded the 3rd Class of Eduardo Mondlane (source : Diario de Noticias 27 december 2005).There is also a Socialist Labor Order for which I have no picture, but which was awarded in its 1st degree in january 2005 to 2 Governor of Province & to 3 Director of large state owned companies (telephone : TDM),ports & railways (CFM) and national hydrocarbon company (ENH).If anyone has more information (pictures),it would be great.Emmanuel
heusy68 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Any Mozambique medals? As there was 4 stamps I post the 2 remaining pictures. The first picture is : Bagamoyo Medal. It seems this is a high ranking medal. It was awarded posthumously in 2008 to a swiss doctor which was killed in Mozambique on the last months of the civil war (1990).The second picture is the Medal for Veteran of the National Liberation Struggle, but as most of african countries, was this medal awarded to all veterans,or only to a handfull who are member of the party ?Anyway I think it's interesting to know that those awards exist.I tried to knew if Angola & Sao Tome and Principe had issued stamps with their awards, but it seems not. Emmanuel
NPGilbert Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Emmanuel thank you for posting the images. At least we can get an idea of which awards the Mozambicans have. These items go beyond scarce. They are mysteries. While travelling in the country I never even saw a soldier wearing any ribbons, let alone medals.Have a great day.Norman

Megan Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Order of Emperor Menelik II, instituted in 1924 and awarded in 5 classes to senior military and court officials. Looks like you have a Commander (i.e. 3rd Class) there.
Ulsterman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Paddy!!!! That is superb!!!!1 :jumping: It was often used as a form of "House order" by the Emperor. Many, many imperial Guard officers received this class -and not a few foreign advisers (including Irish UN troops) too! If you ever wish to part with that tasty tidbit.......
