order_of_victory Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Just checked out the mondor site andthere is a close up of the first class mint mark and it is same, should of checked it first any way I cant understand what the Russian says, so any help on that sore would be nice. Here s the pic from the mondor siteOoV
Eric Gaumann Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Here s the pic from the mondor siteOoVThat's pretty much what mine looks like. Kinda. It's so damn small it's hard to say even under magnification. Is it worth trying to set up my zoom lens to get this? And if I do can I post images here? I'm a new member (probationary) and I haven't paid any money to be an associate yet. Do I have priveledges?
Guest Darrell Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I could take a better picture with my camera but it's tucked away Here are some closeups of my pictures above of the mm:
Eric Gaumann Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 The silver one looks kinda like "MM(x)" which should be the Moscow Mint as the Red Book says.
Guest Darrell Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 The silver one looks kinda like "MM(x)" which should be the Moscow Mint as the Red Book says.Gotta go out for Birthday Dinner Maybe when I return I'll dig the camera out to get a good closeup shot

Eric,I believe you can post pics up to 60Kb until you post a certain amount of posts (not sure how many, maybe a Moderator can help you with details), then you'll be able to posts pics up to 110Kb.Dolf

Eric Gaumann Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Ha!! I can post images! Here's the first of three images of my two "nutless" MMs.Unfortunately the images are not good. Basically what stands out is an outer border of dot dot dots with some unintelligable squigles inside.
Eric Gaumann Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 and the third.BTW, I sent these images to Darrell so he could post them for me. Obviously if he sees them here he can just delete that whole email.
Christophe Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I believe all these are the Moscow mintmarks, including OoV's ones.Ch.
Gerd Becker Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 The one, OoV shows from the Mondvor website is a fake! There are fakes around of this Medal. Look for crude mintmarks and crude overall appearence.
Gerd Becker Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Here are pics of my two are they fakes?I think, they are okay. I haven?t seen one of these fakes in the flesh so far, but Alexei and the Mondvor website do mention them. He said, they are crude in appearence and the mintmark is badly made.
Christophe Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 So, any idea where the Leningrad screwplate comes from ? Ch.
order_of_victory Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Thanks Gerd, I least i now think they are Genuine. But I still cant work out why one hae a Leningradskii Montry Dvor screw nut Orderof Victory
Ed_Haynes Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Not sure this will add much, but the mintmarks and screw-nuts of my two (undocumented) specimens. Both have their nuts intact.
Guest Darrell Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Those maker marks are absolutely brutal to zoom into .... aaarrrgghh
Ed_Haynes Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) Those maker marks are absolutely brutal to zoom into .... aaarrrgghh No joke! In between the reflectivity and the modest curvature ... gaaaahhh!!!Looks "organic" to me anyway. Edited May 8, 2006 by Ed_Haynes
Eric Gaumann Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 (edited) Another attempt at mine:Almost impossible to get a solid image of.From what I *can* see of it the squiggles are a Korean mintmark. Or sanskrit. Edited May 9, 2006 by Eric Gaumann
order_of_victory Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Justlooking through some soviet items and I found a vetran of of GPW Screw back badge, its very similar to the Leningrad screw nut on my Distinguished Military Service 1st Class exept it says Saint Petersburg not Leningrad.Could the screw plate be off somthing else? The plot thickens.........
Ed_Haynes Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 At least with Mongolian awards, we are used to a certain mix-and-match approach when it comes to screwplates. Could this not also be the case with Soviet awards?
order_of_victory Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I have inversted the colours on the imiga and you now make out Leningaskii easier.
