    1. Yes! Probably all those insane results from the last months, on eBay and at Munich auctuions, are fakes. Kay, you must be kidding. It's nothing new people are paying top prices for stuff they believe to need.
    2. He probably was neither in Hungarian nor Bulgarian armies. Not every German soldier won an EK2 (actually: 1 of 2,8) or other bravery awards! The absence of the Front fighter's cross lets me assume the bar is early 30s!
    3. Sorry, I have some doubts the awards and paper belong together. I have not noticed any Lippe connection - wasn't he a Lippe native nor in IR 55? Then it's odd, I think, to get the Lippe awards. Still nice you are re-uniting the group. I saw some of the smaller stuff on eBay within the years and will probably tell you if anything re-surfaces now.
    4. Nice bar! But I'm not sure if it's enough for an identification... My bet: EK2, RAO4, KO3, DA, SWA (maybe steel), 1897 medal, BMV4XKr, HT, HH, LüH Major or Oberstleutnant, maybe Oberst a.D.
    5. This blue ribbon was never the proper one for this order. It's a mistake, they probably confused it with the Prussian Kronenorden or the Württemberg Friedrich's order.
    6. I think this is the proper ribbon for the Hungarian medal. Don't you see slightly green stripes? The are often faded away.
    7. One idea, and just an idea - are orders pour le merite known which are made from overworked Johanniters? In more modern days, of course...
    8. You'd even get eight to ten standard WW1 crosses for that money here in Germany. But that's what they are - standard.
    9. Württemberg is a knights cross 1st class, due to the rays(?) between the cross arms.
    10. It's not the first one that sold in this price range. They usually are going for this prices.
    11. That's an overlapped Bavarian military long service award ribbon, so the wearer was at least in Bavarian service, if not a Bavarian native. Odd he's wearing the two Prussians in front of the Bavarians. Maybe not a native... ?!
    12. Impressing, Dave! And a nice medal - you don't find them often engraved.
    13. I saw better pictures now: The HOH3 is a post-1930 Doorn cross by Gebr. Godet. Gilt of course. That does totally not fit the bar...
    14. Though some people did really try hard, a possible wearer could not yet be found - which is pretty odd with such a bar.
    15. Detlef, see here: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/10702-1870-non-combatant-iron-cross-officers-medal-bar/ Yes, that's how they should be in this classes - it only were the other way round if the HOH were a 4th class. The 3rd class outranks any Prussian piece time order.
    16. Looks like Austrian "Anschluss" ribbon from 1938, with a funny story.
    17. Not that I'd be aware of. I learned it all here and on other forums. Waldeck, Verdienstkreuz 4. Klasse mit Schwertern und Württemberg, Friedrichsorden, Ritterkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern. In "Ranglisten-Sprache"... Well, because noone else wore it?
    18. Now that I took a closer look... a bargain. Not me who bought it... This is someone one should look for in a Reichswehr rank list! The WVK4X/WF3bX combination is unusual.
    19. The austrian "star" mark denotes use of silvered or gilt non-noble metal, e.g. gilt bronze on the mentioned orders. There were some German makers that used it as well (for what-ever reason), e.g. C.F. Zimmermann from Pforzheim, so I'm not sure if this one has to be Austrian.
    20. Well, the Prussians are not that rare or scarce, but still nice! The (full size) Kassel cross is lovely. Actually funny, how close they were. They just borrowed the overall design of the award from Prussia, and the same is with the long service clasps for EM and NCO. Though, they were not made by the same maker as one could assume, but by a local one.
