    1. There's no shortage of fakes of these around and precious few originals. Currently, there's a well-done copy being sold as original by a certain mid-west US "auction" house.... "Fire-gilding" so bright you need sunglasses just to look at it. Case has a gold ban on the lid and a maroon silk lining, silk insert liner and hinge. Quite beautiful as copies go, but a copy nonetheless.
    2. I think the prices for the silver-gilt one are extreme. I've seen 1500- Euro and there's one in the US just under 5K USD! How nuts is that? Give me gold one any day........
    3. Hey Tim, post a link in your sales thread back to the discussion. It will help!
    4. The eBay badge has been on-offer forever. We've talked about it before, both here and on the Sov forum. Interesting point is that originally, one of the more senior members of the Sov Forum sold this set on the website. This really falls into the "unexplored" realm of collecting. There are so few people out there that really know anything about these little gems.
    5. Hi Daniel, a very nice and historical group you have there!!!
    6. Interesting maker mark. Have not seen this incused one before. But this combination of marks does show up occassionally on the EK1.
    7. Wow. Nice story and what a great treasure. A talented man, your German friend is!
    8. Hi Andy. I think your cross looks fine, as does the case. Not one of the more common makers either!
    9. Skeletor! Geez Darrell, where the heck are you finding this stuff?
    10. I'm not. There's a finite number of people privy to the details of what's right, what is not. List it for $9.99, same description, watch it sell for 3K plus. Funny, isn't it. I have the same problem as well. You cannot get someone to pony up to the bar for anything akin to what a real one is worth...... even this one. But put a fake Imperial Aviation badge on eBay and you are guaranteed $400 minimum every single time....... You can't fix stupid.
    11. Hi Car, a collection is only what you feel it to be. To me, this is a rather magnificent grouping and the fact that it's your family makes it even better, despite the tragic story attached. Cheers! Rick
    12. ... as opposed to American stuff... for $10 a name, you can pull enlistment cards, etc in the DC archives.. Adam Rohloff does this on a first-come, first-served basis. St. Louis...... free, but a roll of the dice. I was very lucky and bumped into one of the more conscientious workers who went way beyond the normal pro-forma stuff they spit back.... but it truly is a roll of the dice. send the same name in 3 times... twice "sorry, no records found"... third time, 168 pages of a file copied. ;>) It is a Gub'mint job after all.
    13. Interesting... very similar in style to the British bars as well as German model '57 bars.
    14. Nice scans Dolf! This is one of the medals that has intrigued me... always wondered what constituted award criteria....
    15. Silver one never came cased? Packet only? That's what I remember?
    16. Really nice to see a full set like this. Usually, I only see bits & pieces! Thanks!
    17. Hi Carrie, Welcome to The Forum & Good Luck with your search for this family history. Best Wishes, rick
    18. Alex is a straight-shooter with some very, very nice items. I've done some business with him and been very pleased. I would recommend him heartily to all!
    19. Nice to see these groups. Thought that odd little moustache looked familiar!
    20. Hi George, thanks for updating us and taking a peek at the eBay piece!
